Miles Per Gallon
How many miles do you average per tank of gas. Be specific like what gas you use and from what gas station(just the brand, not what location)

Does it bug any else that the tank lid opens just by pushing it? I don't in a decent area but around me is kinda ghetto. Anyone can open the lid and take the gas out.

i found out that there is a screen in the neck of the gas tank that prevents people from siphoning your gas, so it shouldn't be an issue. edit: to keep this post on topic, my car has a little over 1600 miles on it and it has been averaging about 20-21 MPG. i live in an area with lots of stop signs and stop lights though and it's hard to cruise for more than a half a mile or so without having to stop completely for some reason or another. about 40% of my driving is freeway, which helps the average quite a bit. it's about 17-18 without the freeway driving. |

To be honest, with a car like this, you can't worry about gas mileage, if you do - you really can't afford a camaro.

I think something is wrong with my car. I reset the trip two, average speed, and mpg. I was at 150 miles, average speed was like 22(under 30mph), and average mpg of 15.5. That seems low considering it is under what I should get on the city. Half of that is on the freeway. And the average speed is low. We don't even go under 22 on the street! Is it the engine or is it reading it wrong? I just reset everything. My tank is at 3/4 and I fill it when it gets to 1/4. So next week ill tell you guys what I get for half a tank.

If you're worried about someone stealing your gas, buy a locking gas cap.

If you're in 6th gear going 35-40mph you'll see 39mpg. Experienced this today. Of course the moment you press the gas it'll go down.

got about almost 600 miles total. from a tad over 3/4 to right on top of 1/2 was 87.8 miles. it says 18.8 miles per the gallon right now. not long drives and not at a constant pace so not too bad.

If you try to accelerate any faster without downshifting, yes. But it was maintaining about 1100rpms in 6th gear at the constant speed. Again, as long as I maintained speed the engine was happy, but if I needed to even speed up 5 mph I was downshifting.

Why Premium, it is not required for these cars.

A lot of things are not required. Don't have to wax it, don't have to change the oil very 3k miles. People do it because they want too. In theory Higher octane gas can allow the engine to advance the timing more, which when you advance timing you can get more power and better Mileage. If you run a tune and are advancing your timing your going to want to run higher octane fuel to keep it advanced. Anytime a FI engine senses a ping it retards timing, hurting power.

You're definitely not making a good case for why people should use 91 octane if you get that bad of MPGs with it. I get 23-24mpg on regular.

Lets put this into perspective. If your 19 gallon tank is actually empty. The price different between low grade and premium is .20 . So if your tank is empy your saving a whole 3.80 . Skip one Starbucks and you can put premium in your tank and not even notice it.

Basically, all premium fuel does is resist knock.
A fuel with a higher octane actually burns more SLOWLY than fuel with a lower octane. This is because the fuel is less volatile and requires more heat input before it begins to ignite. high octane fuels will actually make your car HARDER to start on a very cold day. Higher octane provides no additional performance for cars that are designed to run on regular gas. But in the case of a tune and some performance modifications, it may help. So since I fill up twice a week, I will save that 400 year for some accessories. Unless I get a tune........ |
