Need to sell the Camaro

Unfortunately, I recently went through a divorce, and my current income, on my own, has brought me to consider selling the Camaro. The car is a 2010 automatic 1LT with the RS and Convenience and Connectivity package. It has roughly 19,000 miles. I have seen values for the V6 all over the place, and I was wondering what a reasonable asking price would be for the car? I was thinking of trying to get $24,000 for it, so that I could come reasonably close to paying off the loan. It is in new condition inside and out, and was only driven on nice days (stored in winter). The paint was meticulously maintained with Adams and other professional detailing products. I'm not in danger of losing the car but the high payments are keeping me from saving money to help get back on my feet again. Dealerships have been offering me roughly $20,000 on a trade.

To get what it is worth, you will have to sell private.
Try kbb and black book.com for valuations

Ditto on trying to sell private. If you are not in a rush don't trade it. I listed my previous cars on autotrader and had success there. Depending on your area Craigslist might be an option, but it seems people try to low-ball you more there.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. Mine was made final a couple months ago.... keep your head up. It gets better.

KBB's excellent value is $23,636. I guess asking 24 for it isn't unreasonable. What does everyone recommend for the best places to list a car? Any success with Autotrader.com or craigslist?

Strange as it might seem, I've had good luck selling 2 motorcycles on ebay. They were each 3 or 4 years old and sold for 6 or 8 thousand, so it wasn't quite like selling a car but they weren't cheap junk either. Advantage is you don't have idiots coming out wanting test drives, making appointments and not showing up, etc. Just a thought.

This ad appeared in the 5-13-12 issue of the Detroit Free Press. This Camaro is being advertised by Buff Whelan Chevrolet.
Potential buyers of your $24,000, 2010 Camaro will see ads like this and think, "why buy used when I can buy new for less".
You may have to accept $20,000 if your are desperate to sell it. You are what dealers call a distressed seller due to the divorce.

Bummer dude. I wish you luck. If you price that baby at 21-22k you should sell easily. If you are in no hurry autotrader has a listing til it's gone option which is cost effective. Ebay also provides a lot of visibility. Set your reserve and let it fly.

have you considered a refi to get lower payments if you are going to wind up way under water on the sale?

Regardless, good luck and sorry you have to sell it.

Sorry to hear about the divorce... had to sell my corvette once due to the big D. Asking $24K with 19K seems kind'a high for a 2010 model, especially if one has to finance at the bank . You just might have to ask for $22/21K, but in the end, take the $20K from the dealer, move on. Down the road there's a camaro with your name on it.... take the advice, been there - done that.

You said you are not in danger of losing the car. Dunno if it's possible but, why not find some easy super part time job for a day or two a week. Wouldn't be too hard to make say $500 a month extra to keep it and still save.

I only say this because your going to lose your shirt on this car if $24k only get's you reasonably close to paying off the loan. I'm going to take that as you owe a minimum of $25k So why eat 5k... I say part time job all the way.
