Mine has never opened on it's own when the keys were not in my pocket. back when I was undergoing Chemo it stayed on the key hook for 3 months and never opened once. But in my pocket is another story. I have even had the door to lock and the horn to beep. Most of the time these things occur when I am in a sitting, stooping or crouching position.

Happens too often if fob is in pocket. Funny how it has never unlocked doors ot set off panic. Only unlocks trunk.

The pocket press is a valid explanation, but it has yet to happen to me. I'm a big guy w/ a lot of stuff in my pockets as well. so you would think it would be a regular thing, but it's just not the case.

My key has unlatched inside my pocket before but I've yet to experince trunk openings or alarms.

I was leaning down washing my left rear rim yesterday and I kept hearing what I thought was a small animal in the trunk. Walking around to do the other wheel I noticed the trunk was open. Must of been a pocket press since I had my keys in my pocket. With my Ford, it's always the panic alarm I set off while kneeling down to clean the rims, heh.

My 2012 requires me to either hold down the trunk button or to hit it twice?

Yep, you're just accidentally hitting the fob. Also the more keys you have on your key ring, the easier it is to do.

My wife was driving thru a parking lot and the trunk opened on it's own. Obviously the key was in the ignition, and nothing even close enough to hit button in door. Possibly stray signal? Maybe trunk not latched completely? Will be keeping an eye out.

I wonder if the 2012-2013 trunk relay is a different part number than the 2010 original. If it is im sure this problem was fixed and would be a super easy swap from GMPartshosue for next to nothing.

Looks like I'll have to pull both relays and get the numbers off of them tomorrow.

Update: For what it's worth, the same problem has persisted almost across the entire product line with the unintentional trunk release - it wasn't only our Camaros that had the problem. It exists on the Cruze, LaCrosse, Malibu and a few other models between 2009-2013.

The problem is mainly due to the remote key design and compounded by the fact that only one press of the release button opens the trunk. So, GM has provided a fix for the affected models by dealer-installing, under warranty, a two-shot trunk release relay. Anyone with those affected models that have the problem can get to the dealer for a free fix.

GM has also decided that future production models (2014) will incorporate a programming that requires TWO presses of the trunk release button to open the trunk.

Apparently, GM didn't see the Camaro as a problem as much as the Cruze or LaCrosse.
