The gas guzzler tax is because the car didn't meet the minimum federal mpg's. The 6 speed gets better fuel mileage than the auto. Hence the auto is charged more for the gg tax because it is further out of federal compliance than the 6 speed.

Theres a formula for calculating the bracket somewhere. I was telling people about it last night at a car show and they couldn't believe it was that much. I told them I pay the gas guzzler tax every time I fill It up.

Is this a one time tax? Or do you pay more every time you renew your plates?

Yes..I think it is retarded to tax people because fuel prices are so high which is because oil guys and government help allow the high prices on the oil to begin with.
Its a known fact there is more oil now than ever, and even with increased demand there is still more than ever available. Everyone knows its a monopoly, and the world is run by oil.
Instead of ripping off the people by charging gas guzzler taxes, force lower oil prices. They do it in south america much to the disgust of American and Saudi oil barons and government leaders (one and the same in so many ways)

No sir...you're completely incorrect. Except on the account that we have plenty of oil/gas available to power the US for centuries.

+1

Within the U.S. and our territories only, we have enough crude oil to supply our own oil and gas markets for the next 250 years. The availability of our crude is manipulated to artifically make the price so high.

I think gas prices are too low. Check out most advanced countries in the world. Prices 3 to 4 times our prices are normal. They got it right. High gas prices equals less utilization. We passed "peak oil" a few years ago I think, so the oil supply is not limitless anymore. Sure, everyone in say Europe has smaller vehicles with smaller engines, but they have nicer roads too with lots of great public transportation. The roads around my area are in terrible shape. Many bridges I cross literally look like they are crumbling in parts. It's very disturbing.

The air and environment is cleaner in other countries from my experience. I have no problem with the gas guzzler tax. Can you imagine if everyone has a car with over 500 HP? Cars like this should be rare. Should only the more well to do enjoy such a ride? Hard to answer that one.

I am by no means an environmentalist. An environmentalist would not buy a ZL1 I am probably a little mental though

I know. It's a crazy thing to say. What are gas prices like in Canada? I take the freeway to Toronto every so often and you have some nice smooth roads. Why can't the Detroit area have nice roads?

Let's get real though. People who buy ZL1 or Shelby Mustangs don't really care about gas prices. Sure we will bitch about paying $100 to fill it up or whatever, but we will pay it.

We are at $1.139/L for 87 octane at the moment.

There are 3.785L to 1 US gallon, therefore $1.139X3.785= $4.31/US gallon for 87 octane.

91 octane is $1.289/L which = $4.88/US gallon.

Don't get me started on 94 octane.

note: this doesn't include the currency exchange which is minor at this time.

Just because we can afford to pay high prices for gas, doesn't mean we have to like doing it...lol.

Or a lot mental...Lol, but gas is twice the price it should be....you must be one of the wealthy because what your asking for is the rich to get richer.
oil is a natural resource that should be shared equally with the entire world and only sold for what the total cost to produce transport and sell,
there should be no wall street or government tax or interference...too many people gettin rich at the consumers expence....bunch of

Nope, I'm not very rich. Certainly not the 1%. The higher the gas prices the less, we use. Tax it to hell, I don't care. Tax tobacco, tax alcohol, tax sugar added products. Tax it all, so we use less. It works. SUV sales dived when we had that big rise about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it didn't really change our ways much. Little by little, America is getting it, but we have a long way to go. Small car sales are doing very well. The rich oil companies and the Mid East oil barons don't get richer when we use a lot less oil. The problem is that we have no incentive to use less right now. The oil companies charge whatever the hell they want and we take it in the butt because we are not prepared to fight it any other way. Where are the awesome electric cars at? That would go a long way to battle our lust for oil. Then we can say, screw you oil companies. I freely admit, I am not helping by buying this bruiser of a Camaro, but I can see the path that others are taking that we really need to consider for our future.

Well maybe you ARE the 1% and don't know it.

Only the top 1% of the world's population earns more than $48,000 per year.

Sure, by that definition, most ZL1 owners are super rich. But in America at least with our standard of living and the value of the dollar, I am middle class. To the those making our Apple iProducts in that factory in China, we are all gazzionaires

Just look at any Third World country and the lifestyle of the lower class and you should never be jealous of anyone ever. Be very thankful for what you got because it could be so so so so much worse

Very grateful here. I'm in the top 0.23% and I busted my ass for 30 years to get there. Problem now is staying there as America slowly slips towards becoming a 2nd class nation. Maybe I'll move to China in 10 years. I think they'll have replaced the U.S. as top dog by then ?
