WTH! Build Quality Issues!!!

Ok I'm really ticked off about the paint on this car.

I've had the car about 3 months. I wash it religiously and KNOW there were no blemishes in the paint when I got it.

Now, I've got small "white paint lines" appearing all over the place and scuff marks as well. Did I mention it has been washed with a TOUCH FREE SYSTEM since new? I thought it was wax at first, but no...it doesn't rub off! I've got these issues appearing on the edges of both doors, the bottom edge of the trunk, the edge of the hood...at this rate, I will need a repaint in a year. WTF! Is the paint not water-proof or something? Also, I'm seeing scratches and scuff marks on this car with no clue where they came from. I am the only driver of it and it never gets parked around anyone.

My 07 Mustang GT has none of these problems at 20k miles and it bakes in the sun all day. Plus my fiance drives it so I know it doesn't get the love it should all the time.

Is anyone else experiencing paint issues? I'm VERY unhappy with the build quality of this car. I was removing the remnants of a bug from the top of the hood yesterday and just barely applying pressure the freaking metal buckled. Really? This car weighs a ton! How thin can the metal be???? Fortunately it didn't dent.

I swear, I think I got one that was built on a Friday. $30k for Home Depot paint quality, a slipping tranny that I'm told "needs to get worse before we fix it", an occasional rattle under the hood at 40 mph that sounds like a tea cup on a saucer that "can't be duplicated", and a strange sound at first startup that sounds like a kid with playing cards in his bike spokes that lasts 30 seconds and goes away on its own.

Sorry to vent, but this is the most expensive car I've ever owned...only the second new one...and so far it has been the least impressive with build quality.

Sorry to rant but I really like this car. If I didn't I wouldn't really care. Lol.

I've always said I wish they'd give an option to order better paint or at least a thick clear coat.

hey, join the club with the paint issues buddy...
heres my 45th vert that has thin spots on the left side, and the dealer is telling me they will have to paint the entire left side of my car to make it right. i noticed the quarter panel, when their body shop looked at it they found similar spots on the door and fender. mine is 3wks old (i noticed the problem 2nd day i had it), and am currently attempting to get a replacement vehicle thru gm because of it...

i dont think clay is gonna add paint to the car where there is obviously not enough paint under the clear coat... and you can see the primer thru it

Yeah, I know...maybe I'm "lucky"...if the primer's white, and the paint color is white...its just not that noticeable...

I dropped an 8mm socket (not the ratchet too, just the little socket) on the top of my fender during my supercharger install and it chipped the paint. All the way to the primer. 8mm socket is pretty smooth and light. Didn't drop it from far over the fender. I was just loosening the intake tube clamps.

My paint has this same "thin" look to it. Difference is right at the edges of the panels its just white...like the paint has washed off. Got a picture of an area I will upload when i get home. Hard to see bc its right at the edges...but in person you can see it right away.

Sorry to hear you have issues as well. Good luck on a replacement.

My windshield was cracked by rocks from a guy weed-wacking on the side of a highway in the middle of nowhere...It sounded like the whole car was hit with a round of bird-shot mixed in with a handful of rocks....I couldn't believe I've only found two small pits around fascia below one headlight...I think I was pretty lucky over-all...

Ya, I think you were lucky.

I've already had to have my front fascia painted once. The painter was originally just going to wet sand and clear it. He looked at it and decided it had to be completely stripped of paint. Pitted to hell.

Let me enlighten you.

Took my 99 GT to a brush wash 1 time. There was a rock caught in the brush that does the top of the car. It smacked right at the top of my windshield and cracked it. So, yes, touchfree is safer. Especially when you live where I do and are under water restrictions like we are right now in fact.

I would rather hand wash, but with paint like this any mitt I use will probably strip it down to the primer.

To the person who mentioned using a clay bar. Thanks for the suggestion but I don't see that helping bc there's just not enough paint. But thank you anyway.

I was just thinking the the clay might get off anything first that would scratch the paint when it gets washed...

my garage door "L" bracket hit the rear bumper on the way down and gouged this rediculously 'soft' paint..it's like silly putty

If I could I'd repaint mine and put some thick ass clear on it so I could wet sand and polish it once a year.

There has been many people complaining about the crappy paint on our camaros. Myself included. The official explanation I've heard blames new epa regulations for paint. I call bs because I have friends and family who own late model US made cars with much higher miles and take much less care of their cars than I and theirs look good as new.

After 4000 miles my camaro had more scratches and chips than the 12 year 130k miles altima it replaced. And I take very good care of my car.

One of my only complaints with the camaro. The cheapest Shittiest paint.

Now that I can agree with.

I may just clay bar it for the hell of it. Sometimes its surprising what comes off.

You are correct its aluminum.

I know exactly how you feel OP. This is the most expensive car Ive ever owned myself bc before this car I never saw the point in buying a new car or spending over 20k on a car. Ive always bought used and never had an issue like I do with my brand new SS. It seems some camaros are worse then others. I had a '11 LT b4 and no issues at all with the quality of paint. 7 mths old and 7k miles when I traded in for my SS.

By the time my very babied SS was 5 mths old and 3k miles she had $700 worth of rock chips in the front, one on the hood and one on the gills. Disheartning to say the least. I fixed them myself with touch up paint. Its not perfect but no one notices. She still wins trophies at shows.

It sux paying for a car and feeling like you got cheated :(
