Yep. Mine does it, and it seems normal from the other cars I've driven with this shifter.

There was a thread a while back about a bushing going bad that caused excess slop. Hurst was sending out free replacements to people who called.

I would never accept that much slop in a performance car shifter.

I have the same issue. I called Hurst, and they were quick to send me a replacement bushing for free, but I haven't installed it yet. Not really a big deal to me, still love the shifter.

I installed the Hurst shifter, after only a few hundred miles on it the side play was rediculous. I called Hurst and they sent out a "new" design bushing. I recieved it and it was the same as originally that came with the shifter. What I did to fix the problem was design and MFG my own. I made a split bushing out of oilite bronze, I Incresed the side surface area ( to increse side load stability ) Turned the O.D for a +.001 slip fit. I bored the I.D to -.0005 under size then took the original locating pin and burnished the bore to the pin. Installed and has been driven for over 5k miles. It's just perfect. I had my car serviced last week ( Z06 clutch assemlbey ) and the service guy asked,.. who did your shifter install ? I laughed.

I made one out of the factory bushing which is more durable material than the Hurst bushing. I have maybe 1/8" play at the handle of my shifter.

Well i called them and finally got someone on the line... At first i got the old ..we havnt had any reports of that untill i said o yeah so all the guys on camaro5 are crazy then? And then he said "sir ill get those out too you right away" he said he was sending me a few so we will see. I really feel that this is unexcusable especialy coming from HURST? Am i right or wrong? So i basicly paid for shiny shifter with more slop then the factory one ? Im so confused

The issue is that the Hurst bushing is made from (PTFE) Teflon, I believe. And while this is excellent for low friction applications and smooth surface to surface operation it has a very low tensile strength and an RC of 55. I designed and made one from oilite bronze (SEA 841) that has inherent self lubricating properties. In my opinion this is what Hurst should be using for a bushing material.

I have read that the Barton's & others also do it so it sounds like its in the trans linkage to me. Mine seems to be the same after only ? 500 miles .No more slop then the stock but to early to tell.

Does anyone have a picture, and dimensions for this bushing. Becausse I have a full machine shop at my command, and I can put a job to have a couple made.
