It matters here, when a person asks a specific question related to a model, and saying "RS" doesn't tell the whole story. For example, asking a question about the engine in his/her RS. If the information isn't in the signature, I would have to ask "Do you have a V6 or V8?"

Just to play devils advocate for a minute... in the Camaro enthusiast world, if someone said they had an RS, wouldn't it be understood by other enthusiasts that they mean an LT (1 or 2) because if it was an SS/RS that is what they would say. Secondly, in the outside world, if an average Joe looked at your car and asked what it is and you said it was an LT, they would probably scratch their head, after all there is RS badges on the car, but I don't see anything indicating it as an LT? The average Joe just has no idea anyway.

But I agree, a camaro owner should know what they are talking about.

That's funny, because I've owned more than one Z/28 and I always called it a Camaro (to the general public)... not a Z-28 - unless people asked what model of Camaro, which was rare. "People like me?"
