2012 ZL1 wrecked with 11 miles on the odometer at local dealership(story inside)...
Ok. So here goes. I posted this but deleted my thread due to me possibly buying the vehicle(planned to make a deal even though the car was wrecked, figured i'd use that to my advantage). Now that I've learned that the dealership is STILL going to charge a premium for the vehicle AFTER its been in a wreck its just damn insane. So beware for those interested...
Now the story. I happen to stumble upon a ZL1 at a local dealer. I hadn't seen one in person yet, so I immediately stop get out the car and wanted to take a look at it. First thing I noticed was the car was up on 4 bricks, literally. Then I took a closer look and noticed the front splitter was damaged, all 4 rims/tires were damaged and the rockers were damaged. The suspension also looks to be damaged, to what extend I have no clue other then the fact that all 4 wheels are going in different directions. I started talking to one of the gentleman who works there and they start telling me what happened. The owner put a deposit down on the vehicle(keep that in mind). The car was unloaded from the truck by 2 guys and the car never came back that night. When it came back, it came back with 11 miles on the odometer and the damage that I described. Needless to say the previous owner no longer wants it. I have been able to take a few pics here and there for those interested. You literally have to see the car in person, the pics do not do it any justice.

Idiot dealers, that's why you should be there when your car shows up.

"SOME" good dealers have a bad apple or two from time to time. I wonder how they cover the cost of that repair? Insurance? Self Pay? Curious how that would work... I'm sure it's not the first time.

I'd imagine the trucking company would have to cover the costs for repair since it was their employees. I can't believe they're selling it for the same amount though.

I truly believe this is the main reason chevy is pushing the 1500 mile break-in so hard.

I've seen stuff like this before and the real bad part is after it's fixed depending on what state you are in they do not have to disclose the previous damage and they will still sell it "as new".
The dealers will always argue on their behalf that it shouldn't matter because the damage has been fixed to factory standards by their "experts" and you will still get the full warranty. I doubt Carfax would catch it either, if insurance is involved it would most likely be business insurance, not auto and the title isn't issued until some poor soul buys it.

If they fix it as "lot damage" no,it won't be turned into their insurance company, and won't show up on CarFax.

I cant even imagine that being sold like nothing happend.
If i were to go into a dealer and see a nice brand new car on the lot with only 11miles on it....(still about the average) the absolute last question i would ask is, Has it been in an accident????......and no one would ever do a carfax on a new car and regardless of that it actually takes quite some time to actually make a report show up on carfax. This is obsurd to fix and sell as a new ZL1 ![]() This crap makes you think twice going to dealers now

I'm surprised that the dealership would even allow a potential customer to come and look at that mess.
Do you think if a unsuspecting buyer finds out after they purchase it they can sue the dealership for their actions? We must keep a close watch out for this car and let the potential buyers beware. If they auction it and don't disclose the history can they be held liable? Oh so sad... |

My ma works at a body shop and says there are all sorts of dealer cars that come through. Most of the time is minor damage from the carrier or factory paint defects.
That car looks to be a hot mess. Looks like the car hit a curb which jacked the wheel, suspension and deployed the airbags. You would think that the airbags being deployed would make it less likely to be fixed and put back on the lot as new.

Depending on state and $$$ of damage they have to disclose it to the buyer. If not, and the buyer finds out later it's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
If damage is under a certain amount they do not have to disclose it. Varies state to state and dollar amounts and type of damage. Usually tires , glass ect are excluded. Here is an example of the NC Law. You’re buying a car, but you’re worried that it may have been damaged in the past. Learn what sellers are supposed to tell you about damage to a car they’re selling in North Carolina. New Cars

I visualize someone flying down the road and hitting a hole in the road or curb real hard, enough so to deploy the airbags, dent up the rims and break the front splitter. I would kill someone for this.
Note to self, no valet parking... |
