Unhappy GM to close dealerships

Quote:
GM, facing a U.S. government-imposed deadline of June 1 to restructure or file for bankruptcy, is expected to send termination notices to up to 2,000 dealers -- a third of its roughly 6,000 U.S. dealers, the sources told Reuters.

What about the cars on order

Hey Gunny! My guess is they won't shut down right away and if they do they will deliver orders at a surviving dealer in the area.

this has been debated before. But here are the basics. They would do CH 11 not a CH 8. Is closing doors and debts pawned off your business seized to exsist. CH 11 is where the court decides the fate of your bad debts and you clean house. These are the basics, dont quote me on more than that. Now theres speculation if it will affect production. CH 11 is more of formailty then reality their production wouldnt stop. But some say outside suppliers wouldnt supply parts on a credit basis to GM, thus slowing production. In my opinion GM will have cash to buy parts, or the GM name will keep them in the graces of suppliers.

Hes right they would/could charge a couple grand over MSRP. The people that have the Camaro right now are so lucky, that they don't need to worry about this.

i think people speculating on this is what acutally drives this kind of thing up. And if they deicide to do it, then buyers shouldnt buy them, they would learn real quick. The idea of the camaro wasnt to charge above MSRP it was to offer an affordable car for everybody that beats both the stang and challenger. The Camaro was not built for a few to hoard and for the rich to have, GM has the Vette for that. Nor has the camaro ever been built for this reason.

Dealership closures

GM should be lowering the ax on its dealers this week. Does anyone have a list or information on such?

I feel safe with mine. It's a Cadilac/chevy dealer. They just built a completly new complex and showroom. They do a lot of good bussiness. They are also known for good honest bussiness.

I didn't mean that GM would charge 10G over MSRP I meant like 2-3G. If they charge over MSRP why would you asume that this car would be for the rich?? It has never been "built" for this reason because we didn't have these economic conditions in the camaro's history. And please DO NOT QUOTE ME! it was just my 2 cents.

My dealer is not being terminated ...YAAAAAY

Its not that GM is just putting a blindfold on and pointin on a map

They are looking at how fast dealers move cars. But the thing i don't understand is that most dealers are all privately owned...you pay for the name and you pay for the car from the factory...the only money GM makes immediately is the dealer bought cars. If dealers didn't buy cars from them..GM would be broke. When a dealer buys more cars...GM is happier. I don't understand the reasoning behind the dealer closings. Also dealer employees are not considered official GM employees...I asked a friend's dad if he could get me family and friends pricing...he said that this is usually reserved for GM factory workers and corporate employees.

GM...bite the bullet and hang in there. If you release your dealers...your are getting rid of the amount of demand. Some people don't want to drive 1-2 hours to another city to dump 20k+ into something.

What you need to do is lower pay grades

Also...If obama wants any of these guys to survive...you need to get rid of double taxed funds. This is rediculous...does not make sense to tax it every change of hands.

The government is going to be so desperate for revenue this next couple years and they are going to rape both small and big businesses...you can expect to see rising gas prices....lame...In fact...Obama said that my state's gas tax rate is TOO low...WTF TOO LOW!?!?!?

Now virginia has upped thier driving infraction quota that they need to reach. OMG...do you how much your have to pay to just walk into court...In Davidson County...its 120 dollars to just sit in front of a judge...Justice becomes crippled when it is motivated by money

There's nothing wrong with foreign cars i used to have a 2001 BMW 328i. I wish you luck and I hope your dealership doesn't close.

The Chevy dealer near me service department is horrid. They used do also have Buick, but it moved to the Pontiac/GMC dealer down the road about a year ago. I'm hoping they move the Chevy franchise to the now Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealer doing work on my Buicks since they will lose Pontiac next year. The current Chevy dealer also has Toyota at the same location.

I think a chapter 11 reorganization is inevitable for GM. With the government being in bed with GM I would anticipate that they will provide financial assistance to the phased out dealers to help them liquidate or convert to something else.

it's going to happing. . all the big wigs sold their stock . . . .

also from my understanding on the dealerships is....

GM can not "close" the doors on a dealership. They are not going to renew the franchise license. The franchise agreements end October 2011.

Mark Miller Pontiac in Salt Lake City was told their shutting down, but it's not until sometime in 2010 so even if Chevrolet Dealers are given the axe I'm assuming it will be a while before they actually shut their doors. So as long as you have your order in prior to March and you're at least at a 3000 status code you'll be fine. But lets say you ordered last week and your dealer is shutting down you might want to worry but even then your order would just get transfered to another dealer in your area that isn't being shut down but who knows if they'd agree to everything that you and your current dealer agreed to. Who knows, who cares. No need to worry it's going to happen and if it does and the new dealer wants to screw you over. Just cancel your order and find a dealer that is staying open and one that will sell at MSRP and re order. If you can't wait. Go buy a Camry...it's just a car right?

What about if you have $2500 bucks down like I do and the dealer goes under...yes they can transfer the order but is the dealer going to take $2500 off the msrp? Hell no. I'm going to lose my money. I'm scared of all this since I ordered 3 weeks ago.

well they are private, idk know the exact wording but they are like a franchise. And Gm probably cant make them close doors but can stop sending cars. I think it makes sense to a point because some dealers are horrible. Also it doesnt make sense for stock to stay on alot but then have dealers that sell everything and get enough. Face its all about making GM more lean.

Talk to Gm rep

Purchase agreements will be honored and handled thru another dealer. Deposits are between you and the original dealer. Good Luck! This from a senior and reputable GM guy.
