Holiday Pay RAGE RANT. Just let me get this out.

So...Memorial day is a holiday which gets pay x2. I am working 15 hours and 59 minutes today. Only 8 of these hours are holiday pay. Let me explaing this bull shit.

My third shift Sunday started at 11:59 Sunday night. Which means one minute later at 12am Monday (today aka Memorial day) started. Since my shift started on Sunday (by one minute) none of my morning shift is payed 2x. Now this...I believe...is complete bull shit. So I worked midnight to 8am this morning. Went home and went to bed and got ready for second shift that started at 4pm this evening.

Now heres the complete bull shit x2. The person who relieves be tonight at 11:59 is going to work 60 ****ing seconds on Memorial day and is going to get 8 hours worth of 2x pay. **** that. I am about to quit this job because of this.

I got paid straight time today..... Then again, I spent the day sitting on my a$$ at home.
I do feel your pain, though. I used to work graveyard shift in a hospital (9pm to 7am, 7 on, 7 off), and always got screwed on holidays... But, that was the nature of working in a position that has to be there year round. Just take satisfaction in knowing you were out there keeping people safe on the holiday. If you enjoy your job, it's not always about the money.

It's not even the money that bothers me. That's just a 100 bucks or so I'm not getting. It's the fact that they would pull that on me.

Well it's an 8 hour holiday. So you get double time for 8 hours. You could get 8 hours single time sitting on your ass at home. Same where I work. You work a holiday, it's 2.5x but after 8 hours it's back to 1.5x... Your typical OT rate. Don't be so sore bud!

I'll be sure to avoid Fairfield for awhile. I'm sure you'll be that bitter cop, writing tickets for !

You could be like most everyone else and not get any holiday pay for today. Instead of complaining about what you don't have, you should be thankful about what you got.

I am full time, and I don't work monday. I have to take a day off this pay period, paid since I wasn't scheduled for monday. There's some screwy rules out there, I'm not complaining about this one

A 21 yr old rookie cop complaining about pay.
Better quit now, you won't make retirement with that immature attitude.
Show up for work bytching like that and your sergeant will get you fired.

You could look at it this way - the next holiday, you could be the one working the 60 seconds and get the double time. I understand that you are relatively new on the police force and that I'm sure that there are politics involved and rules and seniority that have a factor that come into play. It's ok to be pissed, just try to remember it won't always be that way. You'll get your turn.

I am missing out on my sisters graduation party and family cook out. It is not too much to ask to be properly compensated for a whole holiday being taken away from me. My sergeant is the one who informed me I wasn't getting holiday pay this morning (bc he originally told me I was) and he started off by saying "this is complete bull shit Z but your morning was not holiday pay" Somewhere along those lines.

As long as they don't keep changing the rules, at least you'll know where the money is next holiday.

Sounds like there is a policy limiting holiday pay to one shift per holiday. And if that's the case, I'd be willing to bet it's there because in the past people abused it, and requested double shifts on holidays to get paid double twice. Not saying that's what you did....I'm assuming you just got double scheduled because you're the new guy, and everyone with more seniority wanted off.

At the end of the day, it sounds like you are getting 24 hours pay for 16 hours of shift time. A lot of people worked 8 hours for 8 hours of pay today. And a lot of other people probably worked and got zero, and would have loved to have had to opportunity to even work 8 for 8 today.

The guy who came in at 11:59 PM and got a full shift of extra pay because of that one minute....yeah, that part does sound like complete .

Yeah I work 16's every Monday. Nothing changed. Yeah that is complete BS though.

I'm on the night shift 7pm until 7am. Last time jury duty came around, I couldn't get it delayed due to my off work hours. So I ended up taking two days off for one day of jury duty. (Didn't feel like staying up for 24 or 36 hours straight). But my company only pays 8 hours for jury duty for one day. :( Which then sucked more since the case went 3 days because of two old bats that didn't want to convict and "put it on her record".

Basically I was off from work for a week for jury duty and only got 8 hours of pay for it. Plus the $8 a day for two days and $55 for the third day.
