Hopefully just a bad sensor, but you need to get it checked out. If you really have low pressure, you need to address it before you burn up the engine. Watch your temps in the meantime.

Call the dealer and have it towed. Do not drive it and do not start it. Oil pumps going bad on the V8 cars is a known issue.

I sure am glad we have the technology in our cars now to tell us about stuff like this early, before bigger problems arise. I remember a junker I had in my teens had the oil pump go bad, and with no gauge, no electronic warning, I only knew because the car died in the middle of the freeway... an awful grinding sound, if I remember correctly....

Never, ever run a car with low oil pressure.

Maybe different on the SS but isn't that just 58% oil life remaining? Not actual amount of oil!

**** DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR***

Call the dealer/Onstar and have it flatbedded to them.. You have an issue with your oil pump.. either the pump itself or the Relief valve is stuck open or sticking..This can and will destroy your engine. The oil is not getting to the top half of your engine , hence the loud rapping/tapping.. just shut it off Don't drive it an inch

I had the same issue last july at 3000 miles.. Trust me It is covered they will replace..

Yes you won't lose oil .. It just isnt pumping to the top of the engine..

I missed ya! As far as the pump, it's a known issue. Becky should take care of you no sweat. I've seen a couple fail and not damage engine.

Good luck.

Good luck with that! Good advice from everyone else too. That tapping you're hearing is probably from the lifters and valves not getting enough oil due to low pressure.

same thing happen to me, I had it towed to the dealer, and the next day they said the oil filter was deffective, it was about 1 week after the dealer did the oil change so it was a gm filter. as soon as the took it off and put a remote filter on the car it started and the oil pressure was fine. they ran it for about 1 hr with no issue changed the oil and filter and all was well no trouble since. this happened last year.

Seriously? Feel bad for you my man but I would not be happy if I had no lube to top end for any amount of time. I would ask for ext of power train even if it already goes to 100k.

Is the cause known by GM and fixed in production? For now I am def holding off on my SS "upgrade". This, grinding and suspension noises means I am putting a hold on my dream order of 2013 2SS in blue ray with tan leather with manual tranny. Sigh. Maybe 2014.

I'm hoping it's an easy fix. Won't know until after the tear down of the engine tomorrow. Oil pressure went up they said, then shot back down. Possibly a cam bearing, and if so the repair falls to me. Nice
