have non BA system, what can I do to it?

I don't know all that much about audio and I don't have tons of money to spend, would like to improve what I already have in the non BA system. is it tough to add a sub to the existing components with out blowing speakers? I know the BA system has 3 more speakers, where are they located? can I put speakers where they would go to improve the system? Been looking at all kinds of modes to the stock system, including changing the whole thing out but I mostly like the stock system, just wish I could make it a little better by adding rather than replacing and adding.

Easiest thing to do is add an amp and sub in the trunk tapping into the rear speakers using an LOC. There are a few threads here about it even with step by step instructions with pics so it's fool proof. That'll give you some low end sound without swapping out the head unit and speakers.

went to best buy and purchased alpine mrp-m500 amp and the sales guy recommended an alpine swe-10s4 sub, will these work with the non BA system? I told him I wanted to get something that I could later power upgraded speakers. I think the Amp is pretty good but not sure about the sub, there web site says it doesn't match the car but if you add the amp in the equation is it OK?

I had the older model of that sub and amp and it was plenty of bass.

COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD 5 YEARS INVESTED AT BESTBUY..STAY AWAY!!!! Your doing the right thing by asking members on this forum what they would do. Shop around before you invest your money, YOU CAN GET SOME GOOD DEALS ON THE NET!!!! Good Luck.....

When you're inside an organization it's easy to say stay away. You see everything they do wrong and often overlook what they do right.

It's akin to saying stay away from ALL Chevrolet dealerships due to poor experiences with a few. These are broad generalizations and should be qualified.

There's nothing wrong with doing research, it's a wise thing to do but there's nothing wrong with going into local establishments and asking their opinion either.

I know next to nothing about audio, matter of fact the camaro is the first car that I loved enough to spring for better audio for. SO I ask alot of questions and read alot before I usually buy. there are a few fellas at the local best buy that I think are pretty knowledgeable but none of those guys work in the audio department and the ones that generally know the most are the actual installers but there not all that accessable at best buy. so when I go in to have them install a couple things I will pepper them with questions to get there opinions on product.

I was going to do an install myself and found a local audio dealer who would do everything i wanted with sub/box/amp/install for same price it would have cost me to go buy the things I wanted and did it myself. look around at a few shops and get best price

When I add the amp should I get the all the speakers wired to it? is there any danger of the amp blowing the factory NON-BA speakers? is that a Dumb question? I was going to have 6X9 and 6.5's installed next spring. doing the Amp and Sub now!

I ran the factory 6x9s with an amp for over a month. The sound was clean, and the gain was set appropriately, so there wasn't any issues. I think they would have lasted forever, and if I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't have wasted my time, money, or effort replacing the rear 6x9s.

don't need high end stuff, can run entry/mid level speakers like Infinity/Polks/Clarions w/ matched amps & decent sub(s), you should be on your way...

thanks, will have to wait a couple weeks but will be nice when I can crank it up a bit and really hear the music the way I like to hear it have heard that 6x9 are the least needing changed of all the speakers, definitely will do the fronts at some point. just want the stock ones to last til next spring and then I will get the best I can afford. if I spend a little more It will be on the fronts.

..get some decent components up front and power them w/ a decent amp. Forget the 6x9s, as they're pretty much for rear fill only..
