I made a video with the instructor in car. You can hear him explaining your apex and braking points. The more info you have, helps.

Here's a really good video to watch (C5 Z06):

http://vimeo.com/16643779

... and this one's even better (same driver, better car ... a full-on race-prepped Corvette):

I'm going nowhere fast, until/unless I get this new clutch master cylinder (still waiting on shipping from the U.S.). The current one is almost shot, and the car is barely driveable :( (the clutch will hardly disengage, making it almost impossible to get in or out of gear, or change between gears).

Fingers crossed I get the parts SOON and find the time to get them changed before the 10th!!!

But I couldn't go without a "fun" car entirely, so I bought back the 2002 Z28 that I sold to a friend a couple years ago when I first bought the Corvette! (...yep, gone full circle here! ). The 'Vettes are truly AMAZING cars, but the Camaro still ain't bad .

That Apex school at Mosport looks like an awesome experience! It's a long way from me in Alberta though. I've been trying to find something similar closer but with no luck so far. (Suggestions welcomed.) However, I was originally from southern Ontario and still have some relatives there. If I was to plan a road trip down that way to visit them and happen to have a free day ...

From what I'm reading it doesn't sound like I'd be able to use the whole beginner package in one day, is that right?

I've got a buddy who used to race here in Ontario who moved out to Edmonton a few years ago. I guess there was Race City Motorsports Park that wasn't bad, but I guess it closed (and may have already been bull-dozed????).

I did a quick search and found this: http://nascc.ab.ca/racing/road-racing/

Also, I hear they ARE working on building a track at Castrol Raceway: http://www.castrolraceway.com/index.php

Not sure what else is out there for road-course type stuff? Not much, I don't think, according to my buddy. Unfortunately (for you guys), Ontario is the place to be for road racing (... north of the border, that is ). Although Mosport is an incredible track, even on a world-wide scale!

As for doing the beginner thing in one day?? Yup!! As far as I am aware, it's classroom in the morning, and I "think" possibly ride-alongs with your instructor, AND/OR, possibly some track exercises next-door at the Mosport Driver Development Track, and then onto the big track in the afternoon?? (..... but don't quote me, as I've never run as a beginner at an Apex day!! ).

That is what I was told when I talked to Gerry. As long as they feel you are capable of handling the big track you will be on it on your own in the afternoon. I was told as long as my track run with the instructor was acceptable I can bring my own ride-a-long for the afternoon session.

Nice line Dingo. So is this a GM only day, our open to anyone. I was there on June 11 When the GHMA rented the track, but our cost was only 225. I'd love to come and play but $500 is a bit steep.

Apex is open to all makes/models ... not brand-specific. Expect to see some BMW's, Porsches, 'Vettes, anything else in between, and apparently a few Camaros too .

If I can scrounge the coin ill try and make it out. I was there on the 11th and timidly on new cheap rubber laid down a best of 1:47:27. I expect you guys in the ZL1s to smoke that as I waved more than a few cars by and Mosport should favour the MR suspension.

PS. Aside from the GoPro I recommend Harry's Lap Timer App and an iPhone.

Nothing wrong with running in the 1:40's. It says that you're NOT "dogging it". Once you get more experience and get your confidence up, you'll start knocking the seconds off every day you go out there .

I'm curious what the ZL1 would be capable of. Likely low 1:30's I would guess??

On the factory tires, I had my Z06 down to a 1:34, and on Hoosier R6's, I dipped into a 1:31 (still lots more potential in the CAR ... not including me! ). C6 Z06's are capable of hitting mid-high 1:20's with the RIGHT driver. Given that it has a little better power/weight ratio than the ZL1, I'll give the ZL1 low 1:30's .

..... now, that is NOT meant to be an initial "goal" for anyone with a ZL1 ... running Mosport is not like going to the 1/4 mile where the harder you beat on your car, the faster you go. It takes time and HUNDREDS of laps to get there. First goal? Keep the car SAFELY on the paved surface, and take it home in one piece ..... and work on improving lap times AFTER you've accomplished that a few times first .
