Car runs like crap

Let me start out by saying that I have a 2012 2LT RS 45th Edition car.

7000 miles in and I wish that I had never made any mods to this car.

If I go up any sort of incline the car will shutter and shake. (Doesn't seem to want to down shift fast enough.)

I have gone over the mods extensively and I know that they were installed properly.

If I had known that I would have to use my paddle shifters all the time, I would have gotten a manual transmission instead of the automatic.

It's in the shop right now...and I'm pretty sure that the first thing they point to will be the ARC DT-S cat back mod and the CAI mod.

Here is hoping that they aren't one of those dealerships that wants to void everything and tell me that I'm stuck....

If I had to do it all over again..I would have left this dang thing bone stock....

After seeing your mods list I was a little surprised, I was expecting to see all kinds of mods and a tune. A CAI and exhaust system will not cause what you are talking about. If there was a issue with air or A/F mixture I would assume you would be seeing a CEL. Sounds like you have bigger issues at hand, shaking and shuttering going up an incline is not normal, even with the CAI installed backwards and the exhaust hanging off the car I am not getting why the car is effected when driving up an incline. With a few of the comments you made it almmost sounds like driveline or trans issues, hopefully thats not the case. Good luck with everything.

Agree with Bill...your mods shouldn't be causing this. Only thing i can think of if it IS one of your mods is that maybe something is wrong with the MAF or it is clogged from your intake, but really nothing else.

But I also think something else at hand is wrong. Good luck to you.

Keep us updated on this as I have the same car with the same mods.

I don't really think the mods have anything to do with your issue, it's something else with the car, driveline, tranny etc.....

I'm curious as to how soon after the mods were completed, did the trouble start? I just finished installing a CAI, MRT-V2 axlebacks, and a RX Catch Can. Car runs great!

One thing I did notice while installing the CAI is the MAF is directional - in other words it could be installed backwards. There is an arrow on the MAF which I assume indicates air flow direction.

I'm just guessing though - I really don't know what could be your problem.

I agree with Palmer, check the MAF. If its installed backwards, that could be causing your problems. These mods should not and will not cause the car to act like that. If everything is installed perfectly, you have bigger problems on your hands.

Those would not and should not void a warranty and yes, when you're in the 'M' mode you need to use the paddle shifters but in the 'S' sport mode you do not as it will shift for you. I had mine in the 'M' yesterday with T/C off and took off when the light turned green and ran it up to high rev and probably red line and I wondered WTF, and then remember where I was. I forgot to shift and must admit, I probably looked as silly as I felt to the those around me. I ended up going to the 'S' mode and allowed the car do it for me.
Since I got the Trifecta tune, Black ICE-olater and VMax TB, my car runs like a scalded dog!

I think you've got no worries. Unless they can directly link the intake or exhaust to the problem, then no big deal. If they still want to say your transmission( or whatever it is ) was caused by your mods I would go ahead and escalate things.

Guess what....

Finally got the call from the dealership.

After driving my car around and calling corporate head-quarters..

They are going to replace my torque converter.

Apparently there is a notice out...and it's an issue with the 2012 automatics.

So make sure you watch your car.

If your car feels like it's shaking or that the tranny is slipping....going up hill or at passing speeds...then yours is plagued too....

I hope the new one is an improvement..

07,

Glad your car is on the mend. There does not appear to be an official TSB for this, but will keep an eye out. Thanks for the heads-up.

Also, very glad to hear your dealership did not ding you on the mods!

This happened to me a bit the other day. It was huge, just a slight shutter/ shake. I figured it was something to do with my torque converter. I planned on going to the deal soon anyways.

UPDATE

So I brought my 2012 to the dealer today for my torque converter. They first didn't find anything wrong (HA!) Then they had the garage manager or something like that test drive it and he confirmed it was junk. I guess he owned a camaro too. Anyways they ordered me a new torque converter and it will be there in a few days.

You should ask if they'll replace it with the RX/FTI stall converter. I think the factory converters are similar in price but the FTI converter is of much higher quality. I know some dealers will install an aftermarket peice instead of the factory replacement for no cost but may void your warranty in the future.
