can hail chip paint?

Had just over marble size hail yesterday in the outskirts of Dallas, didn't cause any dents but I noticed a bunch of paint chip spots over my roof and hood. I wash my car probably every 2-3 days and know where every single flaw is on it, all of this looks like new damage from yesterday.

It hailed while I was driving, I quickly pulled off the road under a tree. I wonder if the damage was caused by speed + hail?

Any thoughts?

Probably not so much the speed as the hail is already faling at a pretty fast rate. Yes, it can chip the paint. You may be in for a complete repaint.

And before anybody questions it, no it won't be covered under warranty.
Damage like this will fall under an insurance claim.

Do not touch the paint either!!! UNLESS the paint clearly gives you signals that it is ok to touch it otherwise...she may chip....

Typically if it hard enough to crack the paint, it will leave dents. You may want to get it under fluorescent lights and look it over.

17 years working closely w/ the bodyshop industry and through many hailstorms I have never seen hail chip paint. it will dent the crap out of the car, but hail does not have a sharp and hard enough edge to chip the paint. I suppose if there is some underlying paint issue, ie... poor adhesion between the paint and the primer as an example then maybe. Otherwise not happening.
