What's the best drag radial?

I am buying a set of Weld RTS 17inch wheels
17x10.0 S71 5X120mm 7.2BS (44mm offset) Polished 3.18 ID High Pad for the rear
and
17x5.0 S71 5X120mm 2.2BS (-21mm offset) Polished 3.18 ID High Pad for the front
Which drag radial is best for drag racing for this wheel combination to only be used at the track? I do not want to go to full slicks because I may want to run the DOT class sometimes.

I was looking at Hoosier #17332 P315/35R17
or Nitto Nt05r P315/35R17
or Mickey Thompson P275/40R17 they do not seem to have P315/35R17

Or does someone have maybe a opinion on a different size I should get.
I also don't have a clue on what front skinnies to get. So I could use a recommendation there as well. Thanks in advance.

Mickey Thompson hand down if your going drag radial. I would also go 315... I tried a couple different ones on my old car in a 17 and Mt were much more consistent..

It looked like on the MT site they do not have the 315 for 17 inch. I will check again. Thanks, which other tires did you try?

I've tried m&h,nitto 555r, few different size Mt over the years.. Hoosier slicks.. Never tried the nt05r.... I believe the Mickey's I had in 17 were a 295? I may be wrong.. The faster you go the more the better ones will stand out. Im just gonna stick with mickey Thompson for my radials for now on and Hoosiers for my slicks.

Do you think the M & H is a good choice for the front skinnies?

Maybe the 295 would be best it is also 28inch tall instead of only 26inch tall. But they are one inch skinnier

Thanks that is closer to my street tire size, which means it will not throw off the speedometer and my trans tune.

I have 315/35/17 ET Streets on my TA and they hook great. I have 315/35/20 NTR05 on my Camaro and they don't hook very well for me.

Yep, your best bet would be the M/T ET Street Radial II (295/45R17). Your wheels are too narrow for the 315/35R17 anyway. Or the M&H RaceMaster 325/45R17 fits nicely too. And M&H makes a 28" Bias Ply front skinny, or a 26" Radial front skinny. But you will probably throw some lights running 26" in the front and 28" in the rear. But if it's a track-only set-up, then who cares!!! Either front will work on your 5" wheels. Check my sig.

I tried a 295 MT ET Street last spring on a 17' Bogart and it worked will. I cut a few 1.49 60's and went 10.44. They seem ok under 650 rwhp. When I cranked it up a bit combined with not the best prep in the heat they went up in smoke.

The M & H skinnies are great. No complaints here.

You can fix the issue with the smaller front tires with hp tuners.. And a 315 would fit and if it was between a 275 and a 315 I would go 315 even on a 10" wheel. Like I said since Mickey makes the 295 that's what I would use. The tire will hook at 1000 hp if it doesn't it's not the tires fault it's the suspension.

I run the NT05 DR`s, they hook great and are 18`s, I have used the Mickey T`s on my last car and they were great as well. The N555dr`s are not the best for the track, there more for an all around tire under 500rwhp.

The approved Rim width for the M/T 315/35R17 (3744R) is 11.0-12.0 inches. Can you physically mount the tire on a 10" wheel???....Yes. But that doesn't make it a good idea or effective as a drag radial. But, to each his own, I suppose. At least we both agree that the M/T 295/45R17 is the best tire for the OP.

Thanks for everyone inputs and opinions they are all great! I have Nitto Nt05r 315/35/20 and although they do hook alot better than street tires, I am still having to really soft pedal it out of the hole. I did cut a couple 1.5 second 60ft. , but with my stall I would like to leave a little harder. The only thing I don't like about the M & H is they are bias-ply and require inner tubes but I am not sure I have allot of choices with those fronts. Are there any other front tire options out there for 17 wheels and 28 inch tall? I think I will go ahead and get the M/T ET Street Radial II (295/45R17) for the rear. They are also in stock too and rated for the 10inch rim.

The M&H 4.5/28-17 Bias-Ply front runner does NOT require an inner tube, they are mounted and used just like any other radial tire. And no, there are no other 28" tall front skinny options!!! And like I mentioned, the M&H 325/45R17 radial is also a good option for the rear.

So you mounted your without inner tubes, the specs say it require tubes. Go figure. I thought that was the only option, thanks. Also the ETs are a few dollars cheaper and they have a $50 rebate right now going on.

If any of yall ever need any help with mud racing tires let me know, I have been doing that for a long time.

Yes! I talked to John at M&H, and he said you can add or subtract 1" from all of their recommended wheel sizes. So, when their 325/45R17 says, "Rim Size: 11 in.", that really means a range of 10-12". Plus, since this 325/45 has a much taller sidewall than the 315/35, it will accomodate a narrower wheel. Here's a picture.....

Ok here at there site the specs say the 325 needs a 11 inch rim.
http://www.mandhtires.com/M-H-Drag-T...ials/325-45R17

And here it says tubes required for the MSS024, maybe it would be fine without but it also says the recommended wheels size is 4 inch for the front. But that I think would be ok since they are on the front.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MNH-MSS024/

I just want to make sure I have no problems, please you guys don't argue.
