I am sure they are as competent as they need to be. However, I doubt they could log even a fraction of the hours in the car compared to Adam Dean, GM engineer. Seat time is invaluable.
Agreed...however, the magazine guys test hundreds of cars and should be well rounded and able to drive any car competently. I would also hazzard a guess that they spend considerable time with each car they test to give a fair evaluation.

You conspiracy guys are funny.

Also anyone who's worried about tenths of a second. Get over it and enjoy what's available. Buy what you like and stop trying to convince the unconvincable.

Isn't Adam also a racer?

Of course, once you take this engine to a chassis dyno known for vaporizing GM fairy dust as we did, the output of the ATS engine looks identical to that of a BMW engine rated for 32 fewer ponies.

That is my point. Adam Dean is to GM what Gene Martindale is to SVT, and Jules Bianchi is to Ferrari. Test drivers and/or Development Engineers. They can get the absolute best out of their respective vehicles.

There is no point in comparing how fast Adam Dean can get a 1LE around VIR to how fast Car & Driver got the Boss LS around VIR.

I can see where that would be apples to oranges. I still think under 3 on the grand course is a great accomplishment. I'm getting a 1LE whether it wins or loses against the Boss in the mags anyways. Looking foward to the comparisons, I just hope we don't have to wait till next years lightening lap to see.

No doubt under 3 min. is awesome. The fact that is was done just means its possible, and will hopefully get people out to the track to try for themselves.

Sadly, I don't think the 1LE or the Boss LS, since they had it already, will be in the Lightning Lap with the GT500 and ZL1 attracting all the attention.

The mustang GT with the track pack comes with the boss oil cooler, larger boss radiator, 3.73 rear end, and it includes the torsen differential which looks to be extra on the boss?

Also, the brembo brake package includes the GT500 lower control arms and sta-bars. At least it did in 2010. I assume this is still true? It also was suppose to have retuned stability control.

Since they use the same transmission for $9500 more you get a splitter and transmission cooler scoop. None of which is all that expensive or difficult to install later. Then you get adjustable suspension and forged interals with a 30 hp increase which are nice, but $9500 for that? Really?

Maybe you get all the features of the premium mustang as well? Subtract the cost of the premium mustang and that's $5500 more, which sounds like a better deal than $9500. Although on the Ford website it lists the boss as having cloth seats so they aren't the premium leather seats.
Don't Forget the Boss package also adds the BOSS engine. Which has a different intake, internals etc etc
