Is it odd to ask to see the old part thats being replaced as proof??

That any work was done at all?
Im supposed to be getting a tie rod replaced, now I suppose that I'll have to test it after the new one is in. But if you already dont trust the work from the people doing it, how do you know they even replaced the part in question?
So asking to see the old one after the new one is in is the only way right?

Gotta do what you gotta do I suppose. They said theyd do it under warranty which is nice, but if it doesnt work they they have to use some laser fram machine to find the problem. Which im sure is gonna cost an arm and a leg.

If you don't trust where your car is being worked on, why did you take it there?

Mark the old part. Like use a center punch and put a coupl dimpls in it. It must suck having to deal with that mistrust. I always like to see the old parts

Make a small mark on the old part that isn't obvious to anyone else. Then when the repair is done, check to be sure that the part has been changed. I've done this for years and you don't have to be bothered asking them to show you the old part.

I think by law they are required to return the old parts to you if you request them. As these parts still belong to you and are your property. Just make sure before you get the work started that you tell them you need them back.

Nope. They don't have to give you anything. Their response will be, "The part has to go back to GM engineers for analysis." This is why the part marking trick is the best way to go if you want to know if your part was changed.

yeah it's warranty work so I know they'll need it back. but when I go for the test drive with the "new" one installed I want to see the old one.

I'm gonna see what's the most feasible way for me to mark it now.

No. It's not odd at all. If you are having work done and paying for it, then I ALWAYS request my old parts back. They are your parts and you have the right to get them back.

The exception is warranty work. Since you don't pay for it those parts they get them back. You can, however, ask to see them if the dealership is nice. They may or may not let you.
