First Oil Change and Consumption
Hey I have about 6200 miles on my car and Im at about 15% oil life. My question is does the dealer carry fully synthetic oil do I have to go get my own. I to dont have the means or resources to change and dispose of the oil myself.
Secondly I drove the engine pretty hard during the break in and I know most say go full synthetic early like 1500 miles should I be worried about consumption issues long term?

I'm not an expert, but all the knowledge I've gained tells me that after your break in period, go full synthetic. And after that, make it a point to do regular changes and check you oil between changes. Beyond that, I don't know what else a person could do.
As for the dealer changes, you will have to request that they do it with full synthetic, else they will do the change with the regular oil the car came with. Expect the bill to be much higher with full synthetic though. lol.

The standard/prescribed oil for the LFX is a blend, a legit chevy dealer service dept should give you AC Delco blend, which is great... but synthetic is always better.

I believe the corvette comes with mobil 1 from the factory so the dealer should have it.

The dealer should have full syn, but they will bone you for it. I think he quoted me something like $140! Go buy a 5qt of Mobil 1 5w-30 and an extra quart, should be about $35 bucks plus tax at Wally World. Mobil 1 says DEXOS right on the label so no worries. I bought the AC Delco filters for about $6 each at Amazon, dealer should charge you about $20 for the oil change. Its ok to bring your own parts, just make sure you get the estimate IN WRITING before the service.
They are offering deals using your Chevy Rewards card. I had them change my tranny and diff oil too, and they screwed me $95 each, (one hour of labor) he said they dont do anything for less than one hour labor, it probably took 10 min each, but now I have the first oil/filter/diff/tranny change on record for warranty purposes, and I used full syn Redline products. But the oil change portion was only about $15 bucks, he said he reduced it since I had other work done too, I guess he was worried about my rectal pain after seeing and hearing my reaction about the $190 labor fee for the tranny/diff. This car will not see the dealer again unless its for a promo deal or warranty work. |

Obviously there are various (personal) schools of thought on this. My Owner's Manual states:
"Use only engine oil licensed to the dexos 1 specification, or equivalent, of the proper SAE viscosity grade. ACDelco dexos 1 Synthetic Blend is recommended." I'll be changing my oil next week before a lengthy trip north, and I'll be using Castrol GTX SynBlend 5w-30.

I think you cant go wrong either way. But from now on I would change the oil at 5k, oil is cheap.
