The style of the 5th gen - how long?
How long do you think the camaro will stay retro style, If you wait to long before you buy it what kind of changes will be done.

I would assume they would keep their design for anywhere from 5-10 years depending on how successful it is and how tastes and trends change. I think that the 6th gen could look like almost anything depending on again the current tastes and fashions. even though it's the camaro, GM is a company that markets it's product to sell as many models as possible and to that effect will design it in whatever way they believe will sell the most.

I agree, it will probably stay close to it's new style for 5-10 years. After that I think the retro style fad will have faded and GM will move forward with a new design.

I don't think they could get away with keeping a body style for 10 years these days. At least not without making some minor changes every year, or a major refresh after 5 to keep it fresh. The days of a generation lasting 11 years (1970-1981),10 years (1982-1992) or 9 years (1993-2002) is gone imo. I don't think they should last more than 7/8 years myself. |

If it lasts for only 5 years it'll seem like the buildup from concept to the production 5th gen was almost as long as it lasts in production

I think seven our eight years. As long as tey don't go with Saabs insane keep a model the same for ten years plan.

I think the clock is already ticking on the style...and it hasn't even been released yet. I'd say 5 years before they redesign it.

(I don't think they plan on making the 6th gen look like a 1970 Camaro. But if they did ? Hmmm. I'm just getting theh 5th gen before everything goes downhill.) I wouldn't assume this design will last that long. If they change the design BEFORE you were ready to buy, you might have to settle for a used one. this is the only reason I am buying one. (And don't forget that all of a sudden the government can ban these kinds of cars. ya never know!) Last edited by 2001ragtop; 12-19-2007 at 01:14 PM. |

One thing I can Guarantee. The next design will become much more aerodynamic. And that's not to say that this one insn't - quite the contrary.
EDIT: And I still say it's not retro...

Prolly 5 years, but I don't think it will be a major change. I think something progressive like the 97-98 changes in the 4th Gen. I think they will gradually bring it from the retro style to a completely contemporary style.

It's not retro!!!!!!!!!!!! :bangdesk:
Most cars get redesigned in 4-8 years. I love the early 2nd gen. Absolutely beautiful. After '72 or '73 it started going downhill. 4th gen styling was the worst, imho. |

I couldn't stand the 70's. Starting with 1970. I liked the iroc, didn't like the 94's but liked the 2002's. The SS fin and the new lights were the key thing.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the 70's models...ALL of them. Maybe it's because everybody else didn't like them.

I'm you're polar opposite or something. LOL I much prefer the late 2nd Gens to the early ones. And 4th Gens (1998-2002) were the best looking imo. Second are the 1991-1992 models.

I would say that the 5th gen will look roughly the same for at least 5 years. After that they will probably do a refresh or a redesign.
Secondly, the new Camaro is not retro! Retro-inspired? yes. To me, a car that is truley retro could be mistaken for an old model at a glance. Nobody will ever confuse the new Camaro with a 69. Oh, and as for the styling of the different generations, from best to worst I would rate them: 5th, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 4th.

If you all are bashing your heads over my "retro" comment, please look at it again because I wrote retro style, is that any different than retro inspired??

It came off as if the camaro was being put into the same group of styling as the Challenger, PT Cruiser, HHR, etc

Average life-span or a car design is 5-7 years with a refresh after 3-4 years. Some models go longer but then they are normally neglected models (i.e. Ford Focus).

They'll keep it until they know what else is selling well. If the Mustang and Challenger keep their retro looks and keep selling, then the Camaro will continue to compete with them. If the upcoming Supra looks good to consumers, then Chevy will take on more rounded Japanese styling. Since all of these cars are either coming out or getting redesigned at the same time, plan on the Zeta Camaro looking the same for a little while.

Styling is actually very subjective. Sorry about the disagreements, never meant to start a fight. Well we all like different generations, so maybe a restyle won't be a bad thing at all after a couple years. |
