Drag raced a 5.0.

I was at the track this past Saturday and cam up to run a 2011 Mustang 5.0. The guy told me his was stock with only a CAI and a 4.10 gear. He was running 12.25 and I was running 12.29. Is it possible that his car was in fact running that good with just those two things? If so, great job to the Ford Co. My mods are listed with my best time to date of 11.99 that was on a 50 degree day. Temps Saturday were in the 80's and it was humid. What do you think, was he shitting me about his mods????

No it was at Midmichigan Motorplex in Staton, and I forgot to say that it was a stick.

I brought a buddy of mine, who had a '12 5.0 stick car with a tune, intake, and drag radials, to the track for the first time about two wks ago. His best was a 12.02 at 114(?) in a da of 1800. So that car maybe be right.

I totally agree Dave, it's a great time right now for factory muscle cars. We're going out to Milan tomorrow for Livernois customer appreciation days, it's supposed to be in the upper 90s hopefully I can keep it in the 12s.

Mustangs are quite a bit lighter and respond well to small bolt-on's.

Our auto 5.0L went low 13's bone stock with 85 miles on it. With an 87 octane tune only same day, it ran 12.78 @ 111 mph in 80 degree heat

We then added headers, catted mid-pipe, catback, and drag radials and retuned for 93 octane and went 12.07 @ 116 mph in 82 degree heat

Added a 4.10 and went 11.90 @ 116 in 87 degree heat

Added an aluminum 1-piece driveshaft and went 11.69 @ 117 mph but the air was much better.. 78 degrees

Added 12:1 compression pistons, CNC heads, stock cams, converter, BOSS intake and ran 10.7 @ 124 mph full weight

Yea thats totally possible for that time, those new 5.0s run good with very little mods...I know an automatic 5.0 with a tune, gear, airbox, and headers with DRS running 12.00s sometimes 11.9s depending on traction.
