Car and Driver Zl1 vs '13 GT500

Recieved my C&D in the mail yesterday--they picked the ZL1 over the '13 GT500. Both great cars, glad I have the ZL1!! Maybe someone can post the article--I have no clue how to...

I heard this one was sort of different than the rest with the GT500 having better numbers in the slalom and skid pad or something. Can you highlight the general points of the article?

Reminds me of a different Chevy (Z06) and a certain Porsche. The Z beat it at most tests, but the other car won the vote. Better "drivers car" from how the article read.

Some people fail to understand that the better car is not about purely numbers and which car is faster.

So as a recap, the ZL1 has been picked as the better car by Edmunds ( Inside line ) Automobile Magazine, Motor Trend and Car & Driver even though it doesn't win in all categories....the Ford crowd will be going bananas and saying GM paid all of those mags for the win lol. So in the simplest terms....GM just plain ol' built a better all around car! Now we just need Road & Tracks opinion.

Even though it may not matter to some, here are some raw numbers that were put together by someone on another Forum....

Interesting stats...some are so close..I wonder what it would look like if the did averages of some of the test versus " bests "...things may look better for the ZL1 on paper...but then again who really cares...drive what you like lol.

I think in the end, most of us will indeed drive what we like....magazines be damned.

Faster is not always better.

Not when faster laps can't be maintained.

From the Motor Trend review:

"By the third lap, the Mustang was behind the Camaro, turning a 1:39.30. The ZL1, meanwhile, never deviated by more than two-tenths of a second."

The performance numbers are closer between the ZL1 and GT500 in C&D and MT's test, but obviously the GT500 was better in the majority of the speed tests. The GT500 also proved to be a good contender in the lap times. Handling is where the ZL1 excelled.

I consider C&D and MT the benchmarks for the typical comparison test between competing cars.

I guess that depends on what you consider to be "better" though. If you want a cmore confortable ride over crummy pavement, you would think the ZL1 is better. If you want the big nuts acceleration and car show bragging rights, I think you have to give that nod to the Shelby. The group of kids at your local Cars and Coffee might look at you goofy when you say "yeah, but it rides so smoothe" when trying to show off your ZL1.

The ZL1 is a fantastic car, but there just happens to be a "muscle car" with a lot more muscle, and it also looks to be faster around the race track.
