You HAVE to let this car sit for several hrs to get a reliable reading. Your gauges will not tell you much and no idiot lights will come on to warn you either. Kinda sucks but it is what it is. What I do is usually every Friday when I pull into the garage I park it, pop the hood and then let it sit overnight. When I come out the next morning I see my hood open and remember to check my oil. I have a 5 qt container of 5w30 Mobil 1 siting in my garage and when it's low, I add a little until it reads on that middle hash.

I checked mine this morning and it was perfect so I didnt need to add.

We have to do this or else we'll be bummin like OP. I've been there and it is a horrible feeling.
This man 100%.

ESPECIALLY if you beat on your car! If you go WOT at all you will burn oil at an even faster rate. I know me personally, I beat on my car and I've been having to add at least a quart in between 4,000-5,000 mile oil changes.

I really wonder if that's one of the reasons why there was the change over to LFX.

I know you're all trying to support the OP, but just think about this if you were a bean counter in the GM engine replacement department. GM probably replaces engines on cars under warranty perhaps very 2 million miles driven (just a wild guess). One customer had his replaced and needs another one 12,000 miles later. Either this guy is the unluckiest GM customer I have ever heard about, or he is responsible for the problem.

I haven't heard any replies about mods or mistreatment of the car. GM will approve once they figure out it is just really bad luck.

Yeah the post on check regular are best. For the last year I check about every 500 miles which is about once a week. What I have learned is I have virtually no oil loss until I get around 3500 miles then it starts to drop rather fast. I can't tell you exactly why but this is why I change every 3500-4000 regardless of what manual or the computer tells me. I have taken heat before by saying ignore the computer but I really think based on my experience that is a good plan. I have 55k and knock on wood hopefully I will continue to have no problems.

Good Luck op getting your car fixed.

Thanks guys, but I don't beat on it that bad and I check my oil often . No reason for this tho . And when this happened my gauge still read 23% oil life. And I was +500 miles away from my next oil change. I understand GM's stance on this but regardless I have 22,000 miles and haven't even had the car a year, so it's Deffinately still under warranty. Which is what I don't get. My beautiful car just sittin on the side of the dealership while they do NOTHING is what's got me agrivated. More than the problem itself ..

Fight it, no matter what. Stealerships never want the customer to win in a warrenty situation.. its always the customers "fault"

Not true at all! You just need to find a GOOD dealership... May take a while but there are some out there!

The 23% is the OIL LIFE monitor... has nothing to due with how much oil is actually in your engine... Again, according the official specs, the engine can consume 1 quart after only 500 miles! So say you have 4,500 miles on this oil change... that 9 quarts of oil... I understand that's the extreme and I sympathize with you, however if GM wants to play hardball...
