Since it was a lot car that's probably been test driven anyway I wouldn't have worried about it. Test drives, dealer swaps etc happen every day. It's a mass produced lot car. If you want no miles the order ayour own mass produced car. I think my car had almost 1000 miles in the first week. I drive the Sh*t out of it.

you did the right thing. 3k off MSRP is a decent deal, but you weren't stealing the car at that price.
300 miles on a new car is a lot of miles, getting pretty close to demo at that point. at a minimum, they should have offered you 300-500 addional discount. you wouldn't pay full price for a TV that someone took out of the box and watched for a day, you shouldn't pay full price for a car someone drove for a weekend.

anything over 200 miles should be discounted.

I knew it was time to go when he said well...we can give you 10 cents a mile.
Whaaat? Even the IRS allows 50 cents a mile as a writeoff! This dealer is pathetic. If they would not offer a dollar a mile or better, they were totally d1Ēking with you.

Whats the deal with GM dealers lately? Did you read any reviews of the dealership before using them? Give the a crappy review or use this experience as leverage to have them give you a better deal.

Also, try contacting some of the dealers on here in "dealer discussions", there may be a deal to be had there.

I would of done the same thing, walked away. But I would of also made a HUGE scene in the middle of their showroom describing how dishonest they are so the other customers could hear me.

Letting a friggin kid take out a car that already has a deposit on it is unforgivable. You know that kid probably wore 1500 miles off the rear tires and no telling what he did to the engine while out joyriding with impunity from his father.

Good luck to you in finding that perfect car.

+1!

I would also talk to their higher ups, document the event, and take it further. Who knows maybe you will get a discount for such absurd treatment!

It is highly illegal ,and the dealership eventually paid for its stupidity and the owner lost his license. I was fired because I refused to be apart of that blown motor deal , I had advised the owner that each motor has a vin number tagged on it that matches the car and it is very easily traceable and anyone looking to buy this G-TR knows a thing or two about that kinda stuff , all that was in an email , I was told to either go with the flow and instruct the shop to replace the motor or face being fired ..... I was fired .... A gentlemen bought the car ( paid 25k over sticker for it ) to find out 1 month later when he took it to Stillen for some mods that the engine in the car had been replaced ..... Shit hit the fan ... We all went to court .

I once walked away from a sale on a new truck because when it arrived from the dealership in Tallahassee, it already had 3000 miles on it. Turns out the other dealer was using it as a demo. The salesman offered me $3000 off. I asked for depreciation plus the $3000 because the dealership was essentially trying to sell me a used vehicle when I wanted a new one. When I hear 'demo' in reference to a vehicle, I think 'demolition derby.'

I agree only because they lied about the miles

I had my dealership pickup my car from another state and they drove it back and it had just under 200 miles on it. I knew this up front and was ok with it

There's principalities in this Smokey! Sure, you traveled 5 hours, you gave a deposit of $1000, and you expected to get a car with little to no miles on it... If you have any regrets about walking away from the deal, then maybe you shoulda gotten it. Dealerships are going to hold back the entire truth (not lie) to get you to come down, and since you traveled all that way, might as well buy it. I applaud you for sticking to your guns. That's the reason I traveled 6 hours to pick up my 2012.

Patience grasshopper!! A similar situation happened to me. I was set on getting a Jewel Redtint coat Camaro but after searching with no luck and 7 months of waiting. I broke down and said I would get a silver one. Set up with a local dealership known for top sales on Camaros and Corvettes. It was a new one on the internet and went to go to the dealership to test drive. I get there then all of a sudden the one I viewed online is not there. After lame excuses as to why it wasn't there. They wanted me to look at something $6k more than what I wanted to pay without my sunroof, groundeffect package and RS package. Long story short, I told the salesman... I'm not the one that will allow these sorry games to be played as if I must have this vehicle for transportation. It's my toy and will not be a daily driver. As I was telling the dealer off with the silver one. A dealer I had contacted a month prior called me as I was in the dealership in front of the salesman. He said after a long delay they had found the color and the extra's I wanted. In front of the lying dealer I got up and walked out.... Now I'm driving the car I wanted and since I was talking to another dealer they gave me a great deal with added engine cover and extra floor mats at no cost. That's a dealer wanting to do business... Patience grasshopper!! It will happen when it's meant to happen!

Good thing u walked away , you just never know where it was or went through ......

So nissan dealers are getting away with that? Its illegal to sell a car with a new engine as brand new without notifying the customer
Only if they get caught

U did the right thing. Buying a car is a tough process and full of disappointments, mostly because your dealing with morons in a high turnover job situation. You just have to take care of yourself like you did and not get your "heart" in it. Good job, keep searching you will find a better deal.

from my understanding 200 is kind of the grey area anyways. that or less and it can be chalked up to test drives. unless of course the car just hit the lot recently. anything over 200 and it effects the value of the vehicle.

Totally did the right thing, they do not deserve your hard earned money.

Also, the next deal you work, beat them up some more on the price. Your post sounds like you didn't do much bargaining.

Tell us the name of the dealership, they don't deserve any of our business.

Good move.

I would go to the BBB and ALL online review websites and just sh*t all over the dealership. What kind of scam do they think they're running? Seriously just lets a new car out like that when someone was driving THAT far and showed THAT much interest?

Destroy them online, bro. Border on the line of slander and give them the worst reviews ever.

PS to those asking, OP said it was "Castle Chevrolet" in Chicago.
