Premium or Regular gas for camaro

Seeing how gas prices are going up as they do every summer, is anyone going to put regular or do whats recommended and put premium.

How about mid-grade, 89 would be better than 87.

WOW don't be cheap. If you got an V-8 put premium in it, it won't cost you that much extra and it will keep your engine running good for years to come. 3 dollars is nothing, try paying 4.59 a gallon last summer for premium like I did when fueling my GTO. Hell this summer these prices are a relief.

Premium only for mine. I'm not made of money, but at .20 more per gallon and with a 19 gallon tank, it's roughly 4 more bucks per fill up. Not too bad IMO.

yeah, my daily drivers an 08 Silverado.....................$110/tank to fill up last summer. (that lasts me 4-5 days)

premium..........if u dont wanna pay .20/gal more in gas, don't spend the $30k+ for the car

hell, i may run half a tank of Turbo Blue once in awhile too if it proves more responsive.

Guys, do the math. 18 gallons x .20¢ = $3.20 x 52 weeks = $166.40 per year.

Now then, as EVERYONE knows your fuel economy WILL go down on a car that requires 91 or better octane that is running 87 octane. So you ultimately spend MORE money and get less horsepower because your running off of the low octane table.

Buy oil service stocks. My timing wasn't perfect last year but I made more money off the gas price increases than I spent at the the pump

You guys are lucky down in the states ... up in Canada, we got upto $1.50 per liter in Canadian which works out to about $5.67 per gallon in Canadian. Translate that to US funds and you have yourself $6.80 per gallon. And thats just for regular gas. So for premium, your looking at $7.71 per gallon US at the peak ... either way, I'm still gonna baby my SS V8 and give her premium. Sucks, but what can you do.

Maybe I will invest in some oil service stocks and pay the difference off that way ...

Premo only please !

Unlike the "good ole days" today's gas does not provide lubrication (lead). Any high performance engine requires high octane in order to provide best effiency and top notch performance. Not only does 91-92 grade help your engine perform to the level for what it is designed, it will help to keep it clean which = a top runner for years to come......don't let your baby down and it won't let you down!

Remember, these cars are computer controlled and they will try to optimize the timing based on the fuel. Therefore, when you put 87 octane in a V-8 car with a 10.7 CR, it will pull the timing back to avoid detonation based on the knock sensor and some other parameters. This will lower MPG, which may negate any gains you THOUGHT you had running the 87. Just some things to contemplate.

I think you have your math backwards.... US currency is worth more than canadian.....so if it was 5.67 canadian, it would be less, like 4.80 or so a gallon....

i can see doing regular what about midgrade you really losing that much with it. I mean besides maybe losing a little performance is there long term damage on using regular. Im just looking for scientific information not gut feelings

If you bought a real DaVinci, would you get a frame for it at Wal-Mart?

So I assume there is no need for premium with a V6?

Nope. They designed it for optimal efficiency with Regular. No gain running higher octane.

My 08 HHR SS only has 265hp. It's recommended in the manual to use 91 or higher octane. So in a 300hp V6 Camaro, I'd run premium as well, that is if I was buying a V6. But since I'm getting the SS....PREMIUM FTW!!!

Almost right, except our $$ is worth less than the US dollar, so the 5.67 Canadian would be just under $5 US, and not 6.80..

I see that you're from Vancouver as well... Have you ordered your SS yet? Any idea when it is coming in?

What cracks me up is that some people are going to buy a $40k car, and then worry about saving a $1.80 at the pump at each fill up. If you're worried about $1.80 you probably shouldn't be buying a $40k Camaro.........
