Onstar bluetooth update letter

Anyone do the bluetooth update via Onstar?
Received a letter stating that you can get a free 30 day account activation for the update from Onstar if you dont have service with them. Letter lists some phones that have had problems staying connected. Mine is in the list (Iphone) but I have not had any issues so not sure about updating something that seems to work fine.

How do you run the update? Does it prompt you when you're in your Camaro?

It would be cool if there was a way to tell if you have this update or not. If I already have OnStar, how can I check to see if I need this update?

Yea it would be good to know if the 2012 had already had the update. I am not sure if a dealer can scan to see if you have the update or not?

For me, I was driving one day and an automated message came on saying "There is an important Onstar update for your account. Please press the blue Onstar button now."

When I pressed the button, I told the lady that answered what happened and she sent the update.

I have an '11. But this update is VERY recent, like 2-3 weeks old. I would be surprised if any '12s came from the factory with the update.

I pushed the button today and asked about the update (did not receive a letter). They activated my account and sent the update.

I called on Saturday and asked about any possible updates. I was told my system has the most up to date software and no update is available.

I got the letter and called - they went from a free 30 day account, to 3 months - then at the end upped it to 6 months...WTH!?!?

The start was very frustrating as the call disconnected 3 times...then I had to wait, in silence, for over 15 minutes for the account to activate...

So now that I have an activated account, do I have the update? What specifically does the update do?

I just did mine yesterday. They will tell you that they are sending a signal to add the update, took about 5 mins of the their musak and silence then prompt came on stating that the update was successful. Call ended after that. If you didnt get the confirmation that the update took you need to do it again. Did they offer you the 3 to 6 months extension for free?

Yeah they offered me 6 months for free - for what reason I have no idea...weird.

He did say something about all my records were purged from their system...

Dunno!

So, you think I need to call them back and make sure I get the update???

I bought my car about two months ago, activated Onstar right away and a few weeks ago got an email saying that my account was deactivated.

Since then I have talked to them 3 or 4 times and they keep saying the issue is that they updated their system and they hope to have it resolved soon and will add 6 months free but jeeze, it has been like 3 weeks, lol

I'm thinking the 2012s have the updated stuff cause it seems none of us '12 guys have gotten a letter.

Since I upgraded my head unit this probably will not apply since the bluetooth comes off of the aftermarket radio since I do not have the factory one.
