Why do you want to go fast?

No matter how much money you spend and how fast your car is...there will always be someone faster. So what's the point of trying to be the fastest? The max speed limit is 75mph on most interstates and to drive it down a track for only a 1/4 mile... Is it personal satisfaction to say your the fastest?

My Honda 1000RR is only 4 cylinders and is faster than most street cars and only cost me $5,500.

Your main assumption - which I feel is false - is that people only buy cars to go fast. There are too many variables that come into play that determine why a car is being bought; speed is but one of them!

I bought a v6 Camaro because it suits me and it is what I like, sure I would like more torque - such as the v8 offers, but speed is a low priority for me.

This post seems like something I have heard a parent ask before :P

+10000

With the OP's logic, we should have 4 bangers in our cars because it's all about show and not go. This is slow car loser talk IMO.

What's the poverty level in your area? Find a job that makes just over it...I mean why would you want to make any more than that? No matter what someone will have more money than you and be able to buy more than you...

See what I did there?

Don't forget about torque. With speed comes torque. You can feel all kinds of torque without ever getting close to 75mph.

Be nice folks...

OP,

I am building a car in the hopes of setting a record for 5th Gen Camaros in the Standing Mile...

Why???

Because I can and it interests me... It's a challenge... Life would be really boring if we accepted the status quo for everything and didn't challenge ourselves to be better... to do better... even if fleetingly, only a moment... Yes, if I manage to set a record, there will be someone to come along and beat my speed... So be it... and Kudo's to them...

Haven't you ever wanted to be the best at something... I sure have... Not for bragging rights... not for glory, just to be able to know I accomplished something no one had ever managed prior to me....

Here's the icing on this... How about the Worlds fastest 5th Gen in the standing mile, and be able to cruise down the highway knocking down 23+ miles per gallon... with A/C, leather seats, stereo, etc...

No, I won't be driving 200 + mph on the highway... but I could... I won't be racing from stop light to stop light, but I could...

Asking this question in a muscle car forum is like putting a meat suit on and jumping into the lion den at the zoo.

I agree, you probably wouldn't understang. But, I think it's the same reason that you enjoy riding on a roller coaster...there's certainly no practical need to do so, you surely get off at the same place you got on, but the feeling is exhilerating and fun! I don't thoroughly enjoy driving my VW Passat, but it has a practical application. I drive the Camaro when I want to feel good! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The answer is at your nearest NHRA track. Go on a day that the top fuel cars are running and you'll be addicted too.

The feeling of the thrust is like crack for me, plus when I give people a ride they suspect nothing until I jam the throttle. Their faces are priceless! I may be selling her for something else soon though... want a vert of som sort.

I don't want to be the fastest because I know my wallet can never hang with some of the high rollers on this forum. but.........

I do love knowing I have a little over 500hp (Maggie 2300 setup) on tap to propel my car if and when I need that extra "ooooommmph" in the future.

I placed a blog earlyer about the Silverstate Classic racing from Ely to Vegas. There was a camaro with aV-6 that raced last year and he raced in the 125 MPH class and he had a great time. Our fifth Gen Camaros can cruise at high speeds and not be pounding your car. Stock SS's are running in the 145 150 class. Yes speed cost's money but if you want to be able to cruise at 150 on a public highway and not get thrown in the pokey. this is it.
