Thinking about trading the camaro in for this
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ctd/3104664239.html
Wanting to get some feedback on this. I am looking to start building my car collection and I think this would be a good start. There were only 354 speedway white Z06's made in 2001 so it's kind of rare and it is something that I would be holding onto for a long time. Good investment or not? Let me know what you think.

well if its something to hold onto as part of or start of your collection.....don't trade for it.....buy it out right, keep the camaro and drive it.

How can you start a collection if you trade your car? The idea is to add, not swap.

I vote no. As nice as that vette is Its really not collection worthy, that's just my opinion. I'd go after something older that's actually collectible. Something like a 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition!! Or 1970 1/2 camaro split bumper.

I say no, hold onto the camaro. I owned a 2001 Z06 as well, granted it was black, but I would look into a later model Z06. The '01 only had 405hp, opposed to 425hp the following years. Make sure you check out the engine, I know numerous people who had issues with the oil pressure staying constant. Granted, its a BLAST to drive on the streets....especially with no TC! I wish I stil had mine.

I wouldn't do it. Although I am not looking to start a collection as I am 24 yrs old. The only way I'd trade my SS is for a CTS V or a Z06 that was no older than a 09

nope. you will be missing USB, bluetooth, newer creature comforts. The interior of a C5 vette is very dated too. looks like mid 90-s from when they first came out in '97. I vote no! 38K miles is not collector worthy either.. its a weekend car.

It is sold. This is why I made the post though to get other opinions on the subject. Those who said trading it in is the wrong way to go, thank you. That would have been a mistake.
As far as it not being collectible I would have to disagree. It is rare that a 01 speedway white c5/z06 comes up for sale with miles that low, granted I would like to have a 20k mile car rather than a 38k mile car. 01 was the only year for speedway white c5/Z's. It may not be collectible now but I think it has a chance to be later down the road. So the search continues I appreciate everyone's input and opinions.

Yes it is a Z06 but is it worth it? Not sure what trim level came in that package (1, 2, or 3 Z) They are great cars and lots of fun to drive. The quirks that come with them make the personality of the car. I had a 1995 ZR1 and wish I still had it. If the vehicle potentially had some sort of value as part of a collection, not sure you would find it on Craigslist. Something might be up with that. IMO

![]() Just giving you a hard time...I'm the same way. OP, I was looking at C5 Z06 Vettes not long ago. Still want one. But all the ones I saw had hard miles for sure and were too much. It's nice to have a limited production car. If you want it, go for it. Both cars are sweet...you can't lose. |

Don't fool yourself, it's not "collectible".
Also, that is a really old car. you can get a very nice 2005-2008 C6 for that kind of money....and yes, I know for a fact because I was offered that for my C6 on trade and that is where the market is right now. Also, you know that the stock early C6 has 400 hp, right? I have owned both a C5 and now a C6. The C6 is such a better car. |

Good investment? At that price, I wouldn't think so. Plus, just because there weren't many of the color doesn't mean they will be worth anything. More like not many people wanted the color.

"Collectible" or not i have always loved the C5/Z06 especially that color. I have probably only seen one speedway white on the road my entire life.
The way I was looking at it is that it is a nice car that not very many people have and it would be a cheap (price/maintenance) way to start my muscle car collection. I get the older something is the more collectable it is for example a 67-69 camaro. I just don't want to be working on it all the time. I'm kind of a fair weather car fanatic when it comes to getting my hands dirty.

Thought about the same a while back, but 2001s did tend to have more problems... That's the whole reason they made the change to the 405hp package in 2002. IMO if you want a collector look for an arctic white or Nassau blue 2000 FRC... little slpwer than the Z but with the same chassis rigidity and less made.

Why are you doing this to me? Now I'm looking at 07 z's. $40-45,000 is so tempting.
I get that the c6 is a much better car. Hell the radio in a c5 is the same as a silverado from that same year. You are probably going to bash me for this but its kind of like the debate between v6 and v8 camaros (to me at least). I feel if you are going to buy a vette it should be a Z06. Quote:
