Police Camaros

I remember back in the 4th gen there were quite a few B4C Camaros out there but I have not seen many 5th gen police cars. I was wondering if anyone else has? I just saw this picture from the county I used to live in and the new Camaro they have on the fleet, pretty awesome looking!

The new-gen Chargers came out first, so a lot of PDs went with them. Plus they were 4-dr, so you can actually arrest and get delinquints in the back seats.

True. And then a lot of the police stations got Challengers too (before the Camaro). I think we will see more down the road.

Yeah, I loved the 4th gen Camaro "pursuit" vehicles of the days of yore as well as the Mustangs from the 90s. These days, when they make an internet stop they call for backup with all sorts of cars. My curiosity is always at play when you see a road side stop with half a dozen officers with lights flashing!!! Haven't seen a single Camaro cop car yet.

they are good for catching people, and get good fuel mileage while doing it.
Also, they had a good amount of trunk space, especially if you fold the back seat down.

I think most cops would agree that the camaro is a not very useful day-to-day cop car, as it only has 2 doors.

In downtown houston there are many camaro police cars. They are hard to spot, painted white with white lettering on them, the lettering is like a peral color so you can still read the white on white, but they are tinted heavily and have dashboard lights. Houston also has at least one SRT-8 challenger painted the same way I saw in midtown.

The 4th gen and earlier Camaros actually had the B4C model option (Built 4 Cops) whereas the 5th gen does not. It's not really a big deal, it's just that the B4C models were more "attractive" to the police departments with better suspension (in the 4th gens I believe it was the 1LE suspension) and bigger alternators if memory serves correctly. Really just depends on what the departments are willing to spend.

A retired LEO I know was telling me that when he worked in Nevada they utilized some camaro and mustangs for the long hiway stretches to catch the speeders. These high-speed chase vehicles seemed to get crashed a lot. They did some number crunching seeking the common denominator and found that the greater majority of the wrecks involved officers under the age of 25. When they prohibited the younger officers from using these vehicles the crash rate dropped down to nearly 0.
We were discussing how a puppy's mind isn't fully developed for a couple of years and he was able to see my point due to these statistics as he understood that young law enforcement officers brains aren't fully developed either. He's lightened up on his expectations of what his puppy is and isn't capable of... yet.
Back on topic, someone told me there was an IBM 5th gen prowl car over in Stevens County but I've never seen it.

I saw one a few weeks back in either in Mississippi, or Alabama. He was in front of me a few cars, as I was speeding up to take a closer look the blue lights came on and he pulled the car over in front of him....
Untill the lights came on I had no idea is was a LEO..

We donated a CAI for a "DARE" program 2010 Camaro that the police uses at a station down in Florida. Unfortunately I don't have any pics. :(

Reminds me of a newer Mustang I saw in Grosse Point Shores on my way home from the Ren Cen one day -- it was waiting to pull out of a side street and looked like a regular plain Mustang with a rocker stripe. When I got closer, I realized the rocker stripe didn't say "Mustang GT" it said "Grosse Point Police Department" What a sleeper!

RCMP;

Texas Interceptor; hard to make out the dark lettering on the side!!

Texas;

By the sounds of it, the worst thing that ever happened to the Seven Points Police Department in Texas was the purchase of a new Camaro to be used as a patrol car. The officers largely hate it, the cars often sits in the parking lot, and the department has tried three times to see it via government auction.

From what we can tell the car is a V6 powered unit that is most likely a stripper on all fronts. It has the cool, but base model wheels, no fog lights, and no grill badging. They could have had a V8!

According to the story on NBCDFW.com, a Seven Points police officer interviewed about the car said, “It was a very bad purchase. All the officers complained about it because it’s not suited for police work.”

They did acknowledge that the car hauls ass though. That’s a positive. The huge negative is that the city is trying to sell it but has been struggling because they need to sell it for what they owe to avoid having the tax payers take a financial hit. The last auction ended at $24,500 and they couldn’t deal it at that price.

How much did they pay for this freaking thing?!

I honestly don't think I'd mind being pulled over by a Camaro cop.. I'd even tell him I'd be ok with getting a ticket if I could check out his cruiser.
