why is the charger left out of the big 3?

I've been seeing many camaros, mustangs and chargers today and it got me thinking. Chargers seem like a better fit than the challanger. Just looking at body shape and such.

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot to post this.

I respectfully disagree

Great food for thought but I think the Challenger fits the mold better than the four door Chargers.

It's 4 doors and isn't related to its heritage at all. It's an ok car but it should have never been called a charger.

Simple. Chargers are left out bc they have 4 doors.
4 door cars are not part of the muscle car/ pony car world. Period.

How in the world does Challenger not "fit as well" as a Charger????

In my opinion the shape and body style doesn't matter that much, the new camaro doesn't look like the old ones yet it is still a muscle car. The challenger/mustangs closely resemble their counterparts from the late 60s and early 70s. The one thing that makes the charger not a muscle car is the number of doors.

Agree it's the door count.

I'm not a huge Challenger fan, but if the Charger is an indication of what Dodge is going then I think they have a strong future. The Charger is probably the best looking 4 door out there IMO.

Definitely an issue with the 4 doors, but I'm not crazy about the rear end on the charger either. Not sure if I dislike the Mustank or Charger rear more..

Challenger is a gorgeous machine.

Charger is a sedan, and many people don't think of a muscle car as a sedan. That's basically the only reason.

I also believe this is the case. Why would they do that though?

You've seen a 5th Gen camaro, right??

There's actually a lot of design elements carried over to from the 1st gen camaros.

Granted, of the 3 "new muscle" cars out there, I think the Camaro did the most in terms of "straying" from the original body style.

But, it definitely has more design commonalities with the 1st Gen, than 2nd - 4th gen Camaros did

Really? I personally think all 3 did a fantastic job at the so called retro look. With that said I think the Challenger looks the best in the so called retro look, and with that said I would take the Camaro and think the Camaro is the better all around Muscle car out of the 3 with the Mustang in a close second.

This is of course my opinon..

I have to say that Dodge really hit it out of the park as far as the look of the Challenger.

My first car was a 73 Dodge Charger SE, and I do like the look of the Charger too, though it's more of a stretch to see the historic charger lines in the new version.

Still, before I bought my Camaro, I was looking into getting an AWD Charger R/T...glad I decided on the Camaro instead

The Charger is fat and ugly. Its dimensions are all out of whack, like a misshapen hunchback monkey boy. The Challenger on the other hand has an attractive shape and fits 5 people comfortably, thereby making the Charger a complete waste of time and space.

Check out this artist impression of a two door Charger:

.. looks great! But elongate the cabin and it becomes this monstrosity:

Which to me looks like a Frankenstein mutant hybrid of a muscle car and full-sized family sedan - which is basically what it's trying to be anyway!

Why don't we make a hybrid of a Corvette and a mini-van to make everyone happy! Not. Don't mix and match.

Uh.. I don't know about anyone else, but IMHO Charger is the best looking sedan and one of the best looking American cars out there. The Charger looks way better than the C6 IMO.

The Charger is left out because it was never a pony car. The Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger were. Doesn't really have anything to do with 2 doors vs 4, not with me anyway.

'fat, ugly, and the dimensions are out of whack'

Those descriptors could apply just as easily to the Challenger as they do to the Charger.

5 people will be far more comfortable in a Charger than a Challenger. And that 2 door Charger photoshop has had far more bodywork changed than just shortening the cabin. Looks like the fender flares were enlarged, the doors were given more of a curve, the body lines were sharpened, the 'hips' were flattened and given more definition. If you did these things to the sedan, it would look a lot better too.
