Quarter Mile Runs Last Night=Help!

I purchased a 2011 2SS Vert about 5 months ago. I thought about if I should do this or not, but I decided to take it to the local track and try and see what it will actually run. This was my first time on a track I was nervous, and the first time to ever run the car this hard, but I must admit I am a little disapointed in the times I came up with. The car is stock except for a CAI intake. Reviews I read on the car said I should be running 13.4. Here are my times below. Is something wrong with my car? My wife did put 87 octane in it accidently on the last fill up , but I did add Lucus octane booster to it to counterbalance.

1.- 13.9 First run ever in Stability track mode- best run of the night
2. 14.4 with TC and ST off
3. 14.2 with TC and ST off
4. 14.4 with TC and ST off

Any ideas?

I run 13.8 in a V6 manual with a loaded down trunk. When the warranty runs out then comes headers, a tune and a ported intake manifold. Hoping for low 13s then.

OP,

1st, after running 2 or 3 tanks of premium though her (preferably 93 octane), perform the fuse pull to get the firing table back (just search fuse pull).

Then you didn't mention if you have a manual or auto trans. The Manual has higher HP & lower HP bleed off all resulting in more HP to the wheels, however; the auto delivers more consistent results (usually better results) on the strip because few drivers can manage the launch.

That being said, if you do have an auto, you can you that to your advantage by (with ST & TC off) hold your foot on the brake, rev to about 1100 RPM's, & at the green light, let off the brake while stomping on the gas. It works!

For the manual, it requires LOTS of practice to find the right balacne of power applied & clutch release.

Good Luck!

I have a 2011 2SS auto coupe with a cat back exhaust as only mod and ran 13.2@106 with TC off and ST on in sport mode, best time out of 8 runs, first time racing. Learned a lot from the drag forums here. Tried different combos in the 8 runs and the above worked best.

i have the m6 and my best run was 13.4, it was my first time at the track with a stick so im still new to it, but i had a lot of wheel spin so that killed my time, everyone said to do about three quarter stomp on the pedal instead of flooring it all the way which i did and the times showed

I've heard/read that the computer limits horsepower to 280 until the engine hits 3K RPM. A tune would give all of that back to you but void your warranty. These cars are heavy and the vert more so. You should be able to improve on the 13.9 but doubt by much (13.6?).

Well its a start! Looks like you really need to do the fuse pull to get the car back in to the high octane map, do this only after you have filled completly back up with premium gas, maybe run 2 tanks through. Next is, the car is a vert, its heavy, so I would say that mid 13's would be about right in the right conditions. What was the MPH on your runs? That would show if the power was down. How about 60' times. Maybe post a pic of your time slips. The Density Altitude last night at the track was over 3600', not good air. For instance, if you ran 13.9 @ 105 MPH that would be corrected to 13.29 @ 109. Holler at me next time you go out I need to get some more runs in!

you need to do the fuse pull. run tht 87 out of it and fill up with 93 and search fuse pull. i rock a v6 so idk exactly what to do but i do know it will improve your time and most likely make you very happy with the times you will get

Dont waste your time looking for 93 octane, the highest octane we have around here is 91, go with QT or another top tier station. And don't waste money on snake oil octane boost. Usually it only raises octane a few pts. So, if you have 87 in tank, the booster will only get you to 87.2 octane. 1 point = .1 octane

It's quite common to run the fastest run of the day right when you get there. As you improve your skills, try just working on one thing at a time instead of worrying about wasted runs. I know how it feels though because you never get too many runs, so you would like them all to be consistent like the guys that have been doing it a while.

A good place to start is to just worry about your driving and not worry about cutting good lights. When you are new to drag racing, everything seems to happen so fast and you can lose concentration, and waste a pass. Once you get used to the actual driving part, then start working on timing the lights.

And don't worry about the track workers seem to be rushing you through, they always do that to people with streetcars. Let the guy in the other lane race right up and stage, you got 20 seconds to fiddle fart around if you want it, that's the rules. Take your time and keep your head clear, be a part of your machine. Notice how the pros take more time getting ready to race than the actual race?

Also remember that a convertible has a much higher et cut off before a roll bar/cage is required by NHRA rules. I've seen a few people kicked out for running too fast with a convertible. "rule" is 13:50 or lower needs at least a 5 point roll bar.
