Question for those running the 3.91s. At 75 in 6th, can you still do a wide open 3rd gear downshift? Or would it be way too high in the rpm range.

That's what I love about the stock gears, is the highway downshift to 3rd. Those with LT's will know what I'm talking about. Ripping 3rd from a 75mph roll to redline is a scream.

No doubt it will go faster as soon as I can get back to the track. 9.99 n/a?

If you're on the fence, don't be. These gears are awesome (and whisper quiet)
Gears are awesome! Always have been in any car.

I remember back in the day when I switch the gears in my '69 Camaro from 3.08 to 4.11.....with only 3 gears....you can only imagine. Talk about waking the dead. Now, highway cruising was obvioulsy the opposite. I didn't care...I was mostly driving around town. Killed plenty of mustangs (back in the mid - late 80's when GT was making a name for itself) from a 10 mph rolling punch.

I now run 3.73 with a Tremec TKO 600 (5-speed) in my '69. Great combo for that car.

Pouncer.....you made out like a bandit. Now you have an excuse to go spend those savings on different mods.

I've found that for the most part I only lost about 200 RPM. I haven't specifically done what you're asking here because I rarely get on the highway but look at whatever RPM you're running when you do this and add 200 to it. That should get you a ball park idea.

Has anybody got a set of these for an automatic?

I feel like 3.91's are a bit too aggressive considering the auto's 1st gear but these are such a great deal compared to the aftermarket 3.70's and 3.73's that it might still be worth it.

Ask your question in the V8 driveline section. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=76

I know there are quite a few autos that have the LPE 3.91 gears so it would more likely be seen and get an answer there.

Wow, that's like $691 (U.S.). They are seriously marking up that price!!! I would call Maureen at Rodgers Chevrolet and see if she can ship to Canada. My quoted price from Maureen was less than half that....so you're dealership is a bunch of crooks!!!

Or do what I will do.....order the gears and send the pack to a UPS or Fed-ex store close to the border. Go for a nice drive and pick them up. The difference in duty (TAX!) on $250 vs $650 alone pays for gas.

I asked a family friend who works in service at my dealer and he gave me the exact same price. It looks like we may have to order ours from the US.

Canadians looking for 1LE gears

I would not bother with your local dealers. I've had so many OEM parts quoted and the price is always around 150% of the US prices.

I live in Vancouver and Maureen from Rodgers Chevrolet shipped mine to me no problem. Some how, there wasn't even import duty.

Only problem is that you need to get on her wait list which I believe is getting longer and longer.

BTW, Maureen's on vacation next week.

Good Luck, eh?

3.91 experience - Part Deux

Now that I've finsihed my rounds of break-in (which is only two normal rounds of 20 km runs with 30 minutes cool down period), I've been able to go WOT.

As everyone else who's done this upgrade can attest, the difference is like nothing you can describe in words.

The revs are so different that the engine even sounds different. 1st through 3rd happens in (what feels like) a heart beat. 3rd and 4th now pulls so much stronger. I can even do some passing in 6th (no need to down shift to 5th).

For normal around town driving, I find that going from 2nd to 4th is more than sufficient, unless you like rowing gears.

Everyone of my friends who've driven the car before are amazed. Only wish I had some 1/4 mile times before to compare.

I'll have to be even smoother on the accelerator during my slaloming events now that there's so much more torque on tap.

Woo-Hoo!

Sweet! After reading this I think I'm gonna have to get my gears before my side skirts. I need some more overtime
