Should I buy a Camaro?

Dear lovely people,

So I just moved to the states to study my Bachelor degree. I've found a pretty good deal around me here in Chicago. 22000$ for a 13 LS Camaro .. but the problem is my monthly budget is around 2000-2100 $ and I am not sure how much this car will eat up (gas, insurance, maintenance..etc) out of my monthly budget. Is it possible to have this car? or should I wait until I graduate?
I cant really tell because I am not really that experienced in the life style here in the US.

Thank you very much.

Well the only person that really knows your budget is you. How much your other expenses are, but like he said...2 years and the 6th gens will be out. Buy a beater until then

It's probably not a wise idea to go out and buy a brand new car with a student budget. But only you can be the judge; it's your money.

How much of a downpayment do you have? 22k + tax/title/license will run you about $450 a month if you have 0 down and pretty good credit. Add that to insurance and gas, you're probably going to be spending at least $700 a month on your car.

With your budget I would not buy a new car. Wait until you graduate and then get the car you want. You're in college, you'll wish you weren't spending any money on a car and had that $700 for beer and going out. Have fun in college, a new car payment might hold you back...

Muta, pay a lot, and I mean A LOT of attention to registration fees in Chicago. I've owned a car there and the taxes were ridiculous. All I'm saying is to ask questions on the final price after taxes and registration as it may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

sometimes when you're young the risks you take destroy you, especially financial risks. on the other hand, imagine you're 40, driving boring cars with a boring life, and you can look back on a golden age when you were young and drove an american muscle car, and probably, maybe, got some girls because of it!!! you really are at the best age to have fun! maybe you can find a more affordable way to enjoy your time. like spending that monthly car payment on dates with the ladies! haha

If you can put a good sum down and get some low interest then go for it.

But that's assuming your income is steady and solid and you don't buy anything else for a while.

Try and find a fairly low mileage used Camaro.

Give Becky a shout. She can help you.

Just be sure not to overextend. No car is worth the later regrets.

If you already have 18k and you are looking to put it on a car, wait a couple months till you have enough to buy the car cash....

Umm. I dunno about you but, i am having WAY more fun at 40 then i was at 20. Know why? Because i can buy all the stuff and do all the things i could not afford to do at 20.. But i can easily recall being broke as a mofo, hanging with my bros eating cold pizza, drinking nasty beer. Scrounging up enough cash for gas money to feed my 73' Firebird Formula 400 in our usually fruitless attempt to pick up "the ladies"

To the OP. Save your coin and spend it on living your life at 20 and not going car poor and doing the above.

Chicks really do prefer real dates with a nice guy in POS car than with a broke dude who can't buy her a package of Ramen but, has a sweet Camaro.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Camaro, I wouldn't trade it for anything but another Camaro. But it's not a everyday driver for me either, and I store it in the winter.

I don't think it's a practical vehicle for someone going to school. Up keep is expensive. The V6 gets good gas mileage, but with the price of gasoline expected to go up again, I'd buy something more economical.

The Camaro has lots of blind spots, so if you expect you will be driving in bumper-to-bumper Chicago traffic, I'd think twice about a Camaro.

Others will debate this, but my Camaro sucks driving in the snow. The SS comes with Pirelli "summer only" tires. They offer zero traction and stopping resistance on snowy roads.

It's your money, your choice.

I don't think there is a dealer out there that would go lower than $22,000.00 on a 2013 Camaro LS. This is a great price.

Possibly a 2012 model.

I wouldn't buy a new car until after you graduate from college. It's going to get beat up at college. Buy a used small car that gets good gas mileage and is low on insurance fees.

Hell if you are wanting to experience the American life style of a college student, go buy the car, rack up a bunch of debt, wear flip flops all year round, don't get a haircut, tell yourself you are the coolest guy around, everyone owes you something, and have your parents bail you out.

I am only kidding as I am certain I just offended some of the people on here. I wouldn't recomend spending more than you have to right now. If in a few months time you have your budget figured out, then buy the car. I would try to save up as much as you can though for a down payment.

I would wait.
-People mess with other people's stuff on campus...including cars.
-IF this is a commuter, you will need snow tires. Night and day difference in driving with them.
-When I was in college I stuck with a beater and then a cheaper car....it was nice having the cash in my pocket compared to a hefty payment.
- Enjoy your college years (have fun but pay attention) and don't focus on the car till you graduate....
