It depends on what kind of road and what I am feeling like driving. Driving a pretty high tech v6 you are not going to hurt anything.

I drive often at 3k, what's the problem? I normally stay under that on city street to keep my noise down but on a highway it's always like 2.5 plus. I want to have power readily available for acceleration with out having to down shift rev match.

I am only at 3K when I am expecting to pass or when slowing down to turn. Usually I am under 2K when I'm crusing along with my city driving

It's fine if you like burning a ton of fuel for no reason.

Maybe, but you do realize that higher gear doesn't always mean you using less gas. And how you figure it's for no reason, I live in a very populated place where in a mt, you can't just cruise and be the only car in miles. it's stop and go even in highways with taxi's cutting you off or braking randomly infront of you, people running across the street with cars maneuvering around them, people that don't pay attention and swerve into you car, the point is if you know you need to react it's not safe to be in 6th gear doing 30 mph and lugging your car toward to avoid bad drivers from hitting your back end, or worst down shift wrong and jerk back into a car riding your bumper. But in nice quiet roads , go ahead and do 30 in 6th.

I've no problem revving 3k if I'm climbing a steep hill or I'm going to need the power soon. If I'm going to be 'cruising' more than 10 or 20 seconds at that speed, then I'll shift up. Downshifting when it's needed is not that hard.

Never mind I see you're in Brooklyn. I wouldn't keep at 3k. Probably 2k would be better.

Ummmm, downshift and take it to 4k! Especially if you have decent sounded exhaust you should be making a statement.

It's not going to hurt the engine, it's less than half the red line. But you are wasting gas and it's unnecessary. Up-shift and if you need to down shift then down shift, it's not that hard to do. To each his own however.
