i want a manual, wife wants an auto

When we get our 5th gen, there may be a battle over stick or auto. My wife can't drive a manual and I think the Camaro would be more fun to drive in a stick.

I don't think it would be smart for her to learn on a new clutch, especially with all that hp under the hood. I might borrow a friends car and see if I can teach her. Atleast the auto has paddle shifters if we go auto...

Anyone else have this issue?

Your money...manual. Her money...auto. Joint money...auto.

I wanted a manual, but I drive I70/I270 from PA to MD 5 days a week. Too much clutch wear for my tastes. Wife wants an auto (IF I let her drive it) I ordered the auto. 1+1=2

Whatever. Married money should be joint money anyway. But I go with the stick in your case. I think everyone should at least know how to drive a stick. She'll be happy you did in the end.

I ordered Auto. As far as shifting gears, the thrill is gone for me.

There should be the wifes cars and your cars.....no mixing, otherwise you just have 2 unhappy people. I say 6 Speed!

Ok granted..I'm not your wife..your not my husband. But at our house when it came time to order..it's MY Camaro. I get to pick. EVERYTHING. This has been my car since I saw the concept 4 years ago..I asked his opinion on a few things. And he always told me to get what I wanted.
I say if it's your car..get what YOU want.
If it's an "our car", teach her to drive a stick and you will still get what you want!

Exact same issue here. We decided if I wait to get the SS then it can be an auto, but if I have to settle for an LT it's going to at least be a stick.

I was in the same boat as you.. My wife wanted an auto and I wanted a manual. Eventually she gave in and is accepting that I have a manual on order. I am not worried she will mess up the clutch while learning since it is easier to learn to drive manual in a more powerful car anyways..

Haha. Everytime I talk about the Camaro, shes like "whatever, its your car" But I know if I dont get it in auto, I'll never live it down. We are getting a new car the both of us.

Shes also to stubborn to learn stick. So auto it is...
Now we have to decide on colors/options.

i think your decision should be based on who wears the pants in the house. its as simple as that. hey you might even realize something in the process. not trying to bash but its just that simple.

Man if you agree on everything except the choice of transmission- you're already ahead of the game and I would get the auto.

That being said, IMHO it's easier to learn manual on cars with a little bit of extra power vs weak cars. You don't stall as easily and you can lift faster and the car will start to roll out even with very little throttle.

I had the same issue, so I ordered the stick and have to buy the wife the car she wants when her lease is up. She currently wants an Avalanche.
