My first try at the strip?

Sorry to repost this but I had it in the wrong section.
I run my car at c5 fest for the first time. There were a couple things that made no sense to me. The temp and humidity was crazy high but my car would pick up mph everytime I would hot lap it. My fastest two passes were my third and fourth consecutive passes with out even turning the car off. Everytime I would run multiple hot laps it would pick up about .3-.4mph each pass. When it rained and my car set for a couple hours and was cool it run its slowest mph of the day. Does this seem odd to anyone else?
The other thing I thought was odd was I run my street tires and wheels Friday 315/35/20 conti which are heavy approx 75lbs, and switched to 18" vette wheels and DR's on saturday and picked up nothing. My fastest each day was basicly identicle. My best 60' was 1.77 with each setup, mph was 114.?? it was definatly more consistant with DR's on.
I also think my converter should be a little looser as I can only get to about 2200 rpm before it starts pushing through the brakes and it doesn't seem to pull hard until about the 60' mark.

I usually run slower after it rains because of the humidity and the track is not as good.

I sometimes run better if I hot lap because I'm trying something on the 2nd or 3rd pass and it works better, like how aggressively I leave power-wise.

post your best slip ET-wise...

i assume you have little high power experience, so most likely the changes are in the driver control. the hot laps kept the tires hot, and you felt better. the car was probably running slower, but you drove it better. same thing with the tires, you dont get the benefit unless you learn to get the power to the ground

I have alot af experience with built big block street cars and ran a 10 second 69 camaro drag car for two years. I was not nervous or anything but not sure what to think.

Here are a couple examples of what happened all weekend, I made 22 passes all together the group off 3 were my last 3, the group of four were on friday. Friday was street tires, saturday drag radials.

I wasn't there but it sounds like it rained some and there was a lot of humidity. The DA (Density Altitude) might have been higher at some points during the weekend.

I've already picked up 2mph just from racing in 2200 DA air vs 3700.

I haven't pored over slips on here to know exactly when you have a combo that will run 11's but in 4th gens we need 1.5's to low 1.6's to run 11's with stock cubes. I'm maybe thinking a mid 1.6 is necessary for a car like yours?

Thanks for the comments, and I had an absolute blast. My thinking was DO NOT red light I live in the middle of no where with closest track 45 minutes away and its an 1/8 mile only track:( It just seemsed odd that everytime it cooled down it slowed down, I'm gonna try it again when we get a nice 70* day and see what happens.

A few comments (agree with Parag also):

1- Since this is your first outing- don't over analyze your slips (yes- I actually said that -for those that know me )

There are several things that can affect the ETs- whole other discussion- or search other's responses to past threads.

You will be all over untill you find a pattern that works for you/the car and stick to it.

Then:

2- The weather (DA factor) was worse on Sat then Friday- enough to affect a large portion of any gains from the wheel change. The wheel change will only do so much for the time slips, depending on pre/post launch rpm and amount of wheel slip prior.

Other factors including car temps (AT the line/going down the track), when your stat opened, when the fans turned on, wind, tire pressure (you probably didn't lower them in between runs back to 'default' for consistency-better ET-unless slipping), stage depth, etc all affect them.

As an example of the most basic - my car was consistent but off by 0.1-2s from normal due to the very poor DA/weather. That didn't matter to me that much, because we were suppose to Bracket race-pick your own time.
Another: the race we race together (311 SIM), was a virtual Hot Lap which most/ my car doesn't like much. I was off an Additional almost full 0.2s, running at 205F at the line- not good at all.
Although you were sleeping a little bit (just kidding) vs my RT, it didn't matter in the Heads up Class, since you had plenty left to take the win (congrats again).

So in short, lot of variables- the more you practice the more you'll learn how each affects your runs. I'm still learning too-that's the fun.

Get out there again on a better DA day- you be in the 11s.

See ya out there,

Tim
