What is your normal launch RPMs?

When I'm at a stop light and start to go, I notice most people pass me... :( Are most people driving around 3-4k RPM ?

My exhaust is pretty loud so I normally don't go above 2 or 2.5k RPM when I'm just driving. So I'm curious what do you guys normal drive at?

LOL I guess. Like I said, my exhaust+CAI is loud, and I don't want to seem like a jack***. Just wondering what the norm was.

Well before I was supercharged I would be around 3.5-4k after a stop light. Post supercharger I keep it easy as I don't want my MPG to rape me from stop light to stop light, doing a lot of city driving now...

Now I probably hit 3k maybe, usually 2.5-3k and yes it seems like a slow acceleration...

3k for good launch. I don't have the skill to launch much higher yet. Too much tire spin higher than 3K, but I'm still learning

They're just driving like idiots because you have a Camaro. These cars bring out the a$$hole in people who don't have one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the OP is just talking about driving around town. OP I usually shift right at 2k but that's just cause I like my nearly 19mpg's for driving around town.

Most are driving automatics and i'm sure you're going for a smooth shift in a casual launch.

Wait, i know the answer to this one. Low on gas around 3K, full tank, usually around 4.5-5K

LOL, if I'd have ended the statement at people, then everyone would think I'm saying that having a Camaro brings out the A$$hole in their drivers. Then again, there is probably something to be said for that.

I think the OP means launch RPM as in what do you blip the throttle to as you're letting the clutch out leaving a stop, not shiting RPM. Mine depends on how much open road is in front of me or how good looking the blonde in the car next to me is lol

For me if I am driving around like normal I just drive so everything is smooth as can be, less wear on the clutch, tranny, tires and so on. It seems like launching at anything much above 2000 RPM results in tire spin. If I want to move fast from a stop I usually start rolling like I am driving normally and than I hit the pedal so I do not get tire spin but still accelerate quickly.

Well my exhaust is loud as well so I let everyone hear it. I don't do a track launch at lights but get on it pretty good most of the time. And yes I get the ones that try to take off at the lights and look at them and just shake my head.

I know here in SoCal, everyone has to try to prove they have a fast car leaving a stoplight. I'm not worried about how fast I leave a stoplight. Just stay the f^%k out of my way getting on the freeway!

I have a twin disk clutch from ACT and a cam so I have to "blip" the gas above 1500 or I get clutch "chatter".

Most people drive automatics, and for the first few feet off the line they're getting quite a bit of help from their torque converter even though it's stock. In that initial lurch, their revs may actually be getting up that high, and the torque converter is also multiplying the torque during that time making the car momentarily behave as if its engine was close to twice as big as it actually is.

Yeah, there are people who feel they have to race you if you're driving anything with a performance image. I get the same thing in the Mustang, but hardly ever when I'm driving my wife's 2.5GT (turbo) Legacy or the Mazda 626.

Mostly, just ignore it, as it's not worth the gas and the clutch wear to respond to every yahoo who wants to claim he "beat a Camaro". Deep down, he'll know you weren't really trying even if he brags about it differently.

Launch for me is 2.5 - 3 . Above 3 I always break the tires loose. I launched at the track at 4k a few weeks ago and spun my tires though 1st and 2nd gear before I got the spinning to stop.

Having a V6 I do drive around the water and don't waste my time doing a burnout.

On the street I just launch from a light around 2. I don't want to draw anymore attention to myself than my car already draws from the law. In the part of Florida I live in, police hand out tickets for aggressive driving. Which is good because we do have some very aggressive drivers and I see 3 - 5 accidents everyday. Especially when it rains. I do a lot of driving for work and, I have been hit 4 times in the last 8 years by aggressive drivers.

Each time it was between 3 - to 7k in damages to my trucks. So far luckily I have been able to avoid them in my Camaro. I have had a few close calls in the last 3 months.
