Thumbs up Chevy 100 Video: An American Story (Must See for any Chevy or Camaro Fan)

Overview:
Quote:
If words like Camaro, Corvette, and Chevelle send chills up your spine, this is for you. Chevrolet began making cars in 1911, and this documentary follows its history for the past 100 years. The film traces the evolution of Chevy’s car design, from the very first Series C Classic Six through lowriders, the corvette, muscle cars and the Silverado.

Car lovers will swoon as private owners show off their restored 1950’s vintage Chevy’s at car shows, and historians will enjoy tidbits about how Chevy took its name from a spicy Frenchman named Louis Chevrolet who sold his shares for a pittance after being told by a bigwig he should switch from cigarettes to cigars to be more of a gentleman. Growing up, my parents owned Pintos, so I developed no appreciation of cars but instead a healthy level of fear of them in case someone rear ended us and we exploded. But even being a car non-enthusiast, I was very engaged by this documentary by Roger Sherman. It’s not just about the technical aspects of the cars, but more how America’s history shaped their design. How they had to shave 700 lbs. off of cars when the (first) gas crisis hit to make them more fuel efficient. How after WWII and Vietnam cars became faster, and how Prohibition contributed to stock car racing because gangsters had to have fast cars to outrun the police with their deliveries of moonshine. And for you fellow ladies think cars are only for boys, there are just as many women talking about their vintage babies as men in this film. For you Ford lovers, sorry, this is strictly Chevy country.

Check out the 5th gen Camaro segment beginning at approximately 71 minutes. Some great looks at the proposed designs which weren't chosen.

How is it an American Story if 7 out of 10 GM cars aren't even made in the US?

Most American products aren't made in the USA. But the company itself is all American, from it's establishment, to the people running it.

What country do you suggest we call it then?
A Mexican story? An Austrian story?
Sure it would be nice if every square inch of every Chevy was sourced and produced in America but the truth is you would be hard pressed to find any car made 100% in any country.
Chevy is as American as apple pie and baseball. Modern industry production trends won't change that.

When I was reading the Steve Jobs biography, I was shocked when Steve scolded Obama for being anti-big business! Steve is a democrat basically, and supported Obama, but he flat out told Obama that he would not be re-elected because his administration was making it impossible for American businesses to manufacture anything in the US. If you read the entire biography you'll learn that Steve loved factories, he loved making them beautiful for the workers. It really irked him when he realized Tim Cook was right and that Apple would have to move all their manufacturing to China.

I don't really care about many political issues, but I care about business since I own one. If you want to see things made in America vote that way. Vote for candidates that support business.

American to me, profits stay in this country. Ideally the jobs are here as well.

Sure there are foreign car plants here, but where do the profits go???

I think that your dollar is worth more than your vote. Politicians say anything to get elected. Money talks and BS walks. Buy American to keep jobs in the US. My only foreign built car is my Camaro......

Equinox not made in Oshawa? The window sticker from my wife's 2012 says so.

Very inspiring video.
