Recorders

A GM rep contacted me today about a recorder being placed in my 12 SS LS3 for potential problems that the car may have. Anyone heard of this and know a lot about it?

Ford did something similar on the 2000-ish Ranger pickups. They hook up a black box device to monitor and record vehicle operations and use if for quality-improvement data. They paid the vehicle owner $100 to do it. Kept them in there for 6 months, I believe.

It's not for money it's because I was complaining of possible defects with my car.

Well, in that case they would be installing this device to detect an intermittent malfunction that they couldn't duplicate during your service visit. It's a common practice. We call them, "flight recorders".
