Back at the track

First time out a month or so ago I ran almost 13 flat. I went last night and the temps were cooler (60s) but the humidity was high. DA was roughly 1700 ft. Anyway, it was a fun night and I managed to get into the 12s, so I'm happy I think I was a little too cautious getting my revs up at launch last time I was at the track. I guess I was trying to avoid a lot of spin. Well, this time, I think I got the RPMs up to at least 1500 when launching.

I wonder how much higher I could've gone? That definitely seems to have made a difference though. Earlier in the night, I was running 13s, and I think I was launching at around 1000-1200.

Another question: how much do gears affect trap speed? I've read that going with a shorter gear can decrease mph.

Nice run. Our track prep is pretty good here, I usually launch at about 2700, much less than that and I bog off the line.

*EDIT* Just noticed you're an auto... On a stock converter I think it would be pretty hard pressed to get it much higher than 1500 at the launch, but I've never driven one. Get as high as you can, while avoiding spin.

Thanks. I wasn't sure how high I could go without getting too much spin. How do I know if the RPMs are too high for the stock converter...like what happens if I hold the brake and rev too high?

Thanks I was pretty pumped afterwards. The other car was a Z28 (4th gen, I think) with intake, cam, tune and other stuff. I talked to the guy afterwards and he was really cool. His son had a GTO (the latest version) so we were all BS'ing for a while afterwards.

Also, I saw a ZL1 there earlier, but I didn't get a chance to talk to the driver. I saw him run once, but it was really weird...the time didn't show up on the board. Not sure why? I remember the car was not very loud at all going down the track.
