California is all about location. That same house can be like 300k in a different part of california. Beach houses are extremely expensive. A million dollars for like a 2 bedroom house that is like 1200 square feet.

If you are a Texas cop, firefighter, EMT, or a veteran, specialty plates are very inexpensive if you buy them directly from the State of Texas site.

To get this take your current plate into your courthouse and tell them you want this plate.

Show them your current one and hand them $7 and you get one.

Cars can only get them right now as the Truck plate hasnt been made yet.

Did it to my wifes Tahoe yesterday and she loves it.

The 7 digit plates just started not too long ago. I jumped on the first day and grabbed the blackest one I could find.

They didnt just start not too long ago. I think they have been selling them for a while now. Only thing is they only do it once or twice a year. I believe mainly around spring and Fall.. i guess its a big revenue period

Sorry...I was thinking March of this year, but it was March of 2011. The first 7 digit plates were offered on March 7, at 7am for 7 days. I jumped on that first morning and grabbed mine.

I got my custom plates directly from the state of Texas in 2009 before MyPlates.com started up. I have ROCKIT and only pay $40 a year for them. We'll actually just one. I still don't use the front plate.

I just moved up here to Seattle a little over a month ago. A couple of weekends ago I drove up to Vancouver, BC with my Texas plates still on.

Driving into Canada the Canadian boarder agent asked 2 things about my plates.
1) Are they real ?
He had not seen any Texas plates like them before.
2) What do the letters stand for, eh ?
I explained it was a SS or V8 Convertible

No the plate I commented on up above is the new retro version of a plate used years ago.
Actually I think Shuffler has a plate that was used back in the 80's or 90's. Kind of cool they are bringing back old plates.

Hmmm will they bring back the black plate with gold letters from the 50's lol

Definitely a cost of living thing. California is gorgeous, but not exactly inexpensive. Texas is much cheaper, and we have no state income tax. I love it here.

I have T plates and bought them on myplates.com. I do not see many around this area and do get questions to whether they are real or not. The T is part of your plate number but because it is a new series you can likely get exactly what you want. The plate reads T is for Texas but in my case T is for Tallulah. Oh they were $495 for 10 years and are transferable on any other like vehicle car or truck not a motorcycle or trailer.I bought them before the car so was able to get them and transfer for $2 at the dealer. There is a photo in my garage.
