This exact topic has been covered before.

Basically if he is running a regular cab short bed with low gearing or especially if it is the R/T version with the 3.91s he may have you as they are a tad faster to 60 and maybe a tad faster in the 1/4 mile.

If it isn't the lower gears its likely a drivers race or you may have the advantage.

If the truck is a 4 door, then you should have the advantage.

Of course, there are other factors that come into play but thats the jist of it.

Your 2010 V6 actually has 312 HP like the 2011s. They took the CTS HP figures as advertised HP. Then with no changes they Certified the engine as installed in the Camaro and found it had 312HP. Fbodfather confirmed this for me when I had a 2010 V6.

Your 18's will help you, also do it from a dead stop as the torque management on those trucks is pretty aggressive.

No matter what he has...he shouldn't destroy you. If he does...then it means you didn't drive your car right. On the other hand, you won't blow he doors off either. Like we've said before, unless he is running something similar to an R/T regular cab you will probably have the advantage.

Here is a tip though...don't let your car get heat soaked cuz that will hurt your performance in a big way.

No offense, but not really bragging rights, it is a TRUCK and as such it is at least 1000 pounds heavier and has the aerodynamics of the brick.

Its not about bragging rights. The Ram owner basically said he felt his truck was faster, so now its about trying to prove what is correct. Not about bragging.

That said, the Ram R/T is no slouch...doing 0 - 60 in around 6 seconds and the 1/4 in the 13s. It might be heavy and a brick, but with nearly 400 HP and over 400 TQ, it has some power behind it..not to mention lower gearing to get that weight moving.

Once you start modding these things, they become closer to a stock SS, than a stock V6....so don't think that just because someone in a TRUCK challenges you, that hes automatically slow.

oh, i understand this, but it is just understanding that the truck with x power is not going to vbe as quick as x car with less power because of physics. you are talking to someone who has had 2 V8 S-10s, a 4.7 HO swapped and modified Dakota and whos's brother has a Dakota R/T with a stroked 426

Always wanted a 91-93 454SS myself, but they are few and far between and a good one is pretty pricey.

its surpising how slow those old SS's and Lightning's were. Quick in the day, but bet most mid sized cars today can stay with them.

Had a 99 Dakota at one point. My first yellow vehicle! Reg cab, 5 speed 5.2L, 3.92 rear end. Passed everything but a gas station lol. Regularly ate Dakota R/T's for lunch - they were stuck with the auto trans

Had a Dakota Sport Reg 5.2L cab 5 speed 3.55's and an R/T 5.9L extended cab at the same time and yes that Reg Cab stick ran much stronger. Kinda feel on it's face after 60 mph.

Hmm. Mine ran strong all the way up. Maybe the 3.92 made a difference. It would bump its 117 speed limiter every time I merged onto I-10.

most midsize cars with V6s or turbo 4s would slaughter them today, but yes, for the day they were pretty quick. Luckily they all had decent mods available

Cab style for cab style the R/ts did have about 1/2 second advantage in the 1/4 mile at the track over the 5.2 5 speed, but the better gear actually should help pretty good from a roll. The real sleeper was the 4.7/5 speed trucks, they were neck and neck with the R/T and the gas mileage was actually pretty decent for a pickup. One thing i loved about the 3rd gen Dakotas were that handled so well and were truly fun to drive. it was sad what happened with the last gen Dakota..... :(

Let me save you the trouble.

You're gonna lose by 2-3 car lengths in the quarter.

I did.

I have a 2009 Dodge ram 1500 Quad 4x4 5.7L HEMI...off the lot it has 390hp! People underestimate them because they are a truck..it will through you back in your seat! No disrespect ,but I don't think you stand a chance.
