Convertible is a go for 2011!

DETROIT — General Motors spokesman Terry Rhadigan has dispelled rumors and confirmed the new drop-top Chevrolet Camaro for an early 2011 launch.

The vehicle was originally scheduled to launch a year after the coupe hit the market, but financial issues and a problem with the German supplier providing the roof mechanism pushed the vehicle back at least six months. Rhadigan said the supplier issues have been worked out and the Camaro convertible will start production in the first quarter of 2011.

What is the guesstimate of the price? NOT even going there about pre-orders!

GM can say whatever they want about the Camaro but it will remain speculation.

They don't know what will happen to the company in a week, much less two years from now. Give me a break.

Such a hard decision as to whether I should wait for the vert. I have one now and love it and know I would miss having the drop top. But not sure what I would be risking by waiting so long. Obviously if finances weren't an issue I would be getting a couple now and trading it in for the vert when it comes in.

Do we know if production starts in February 2011 whether this will be a 2012 model like they did with the coupe?

I was initially going to wait for it but 2011 was too long to wait for me so this is way to long.

Good, but really not great news (IMHO). There's no way GM was not going to build the vert, so it was really just a question of when. 2011 (2012 model year) is a heck of a long way off. And by then, politics may dilute the engine options that will be available...

hmmm if it comes out by 2011 they can skirt those mandates for one year and then change the engine the next year....

it would be a collecters item as well...if thats the case like how corvettes from the 60' are more powerful and worth more than the corvettes from the carter 70's and opec fiasco

Take this with a grain of salt. No one knows what's going to happen to GM due to financial problems. They have cancelled many cars at later stages before this.

If Camaro sales are soft during the rest of 09 and all of 2010, they will kill your convertible and probably the entire Camaro line itself.

I realllllllllly want the vert but can't wait that long. Thats why I went with the 1LT, so I can save some money, then plan on trading up to the SS convertible when they come out. Only problem is my son will be turning 16 then and my 2010 would make a pretty special 16th present. We'll see!!

If it's built in Q1 2011, like the article claims, it would likely be an early 2012 model year car ...that means subject to new Obamanomics and Paloozer environmental regs ...less power, higher mpg, welcome to the USSR of America

I would buy the car, but no way will I wait that long, and I'll never buy any 2-door car in a hard top

By 2011, I'll bet Camaro sales are suffering without a vert in the line up (the way the Mustang needs a vert to be as popular as it has been). IMO, a 2012 vert = a swing and a miss for GM

They shouldn't be saying anything about plans until the bankruptsy is over. If it's over in 90 days, why should they wait until 2011?

I heard today, from another worker that they were wanting to start preproduction verts this August.

I have no idea how accredited that is, because it was just another autoworker and nobody special.... I specifically havn't heard anything to be honest though.

Merge.

2011, available 2010 maybe. because the company working on the current system is a wreck.

Here's a way to get one sooner though. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ht=Convertable
