UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

rolnslo, THANKS! i owe you one

Thanks so much for the re-suggestion to flip the mirror… when I had looked at it before it appeared to be a no gain but after removing the plastic wiring cover AND unhooking the wire connector from the windshield and moving it to one side, I was able to flip the mirror and tuck the onstar buttons up behind the headliner!
I just could not see the forest for the mirror (trees). I started this thread in hopes of help and I got it! (after several bruises) Thanks!

I'm estimating that this gives another inch of visibility! (which is a big percentage)
I will have pix posted tonight (need a flash).
I would still like to see a thinner mirror but this is a great improvement while I hunt!

I will go ahead and tell you that the Monte Carlo Onstar mirror is even bigger than the camaro one. Not sure about the others But atleast the 2004 models with auto dimming are huge. As a matter of fact there is a common issue that the weight of the mirror is so much that it actually causes the glue bond on the metal anchor to break from the windshield. This has happend to me 4 times. But that was fixed with an industrial epoxytype junk.

My wife ran off the road once becuase the thing fell down and flung towards her face. They have always been a somewhat of an issue but nothing is ever done about it. They tweak it some on newwer models but that is about it.

I personnally would get rid of it all together and install a back up camera and monitor. But then again I wont be getting one anytime soon so it may be altered when I purchase. Also perhaps one more suggestion for you though.

Since there is blanks in that control panel for the non sun roof people. You can re wire them to hold the onstar buttons and go out and purchase an old school thin mirror. I think this would be the cheapest route to take.

happy to hear you may have found a solution. I couldn't quite follow, so you couldn't see cars on your right if you were at a stop?

What guy wouldn't be happy with another inch.

Exactly! In the pic I posted there was an s10 behind the mirror that you can't see.

It's really not an issue, it does not go down anywhere near as far as the mirror does.

I'll wait to see picts of his newly flipped mirror with foot in hand & a little tobasco to see if that becomes the new issue

Glad to hear it worked after removing the plastic wire cover!

Just read this months Road & Track's review / road test of a Camaro SS- One of the few faults they found was the rear view mirror- They stated it obstructs foward visability. Thread starter is correct.
