Ha! Thanks for the kind words!

There's no doubt - back in March, the ZL1 simply blew my mind. It still does...and when I wrote that piece back then, my fingers couldn't move fast enough. The 1LE is nearly as good, but has a different feel to it. Essentially, they took the best of the ZL1 and the SS and mushed them together. The result is an ridiculously fun car to drive fast at a fraction of the cost of, say a ZL1...

So if you're all about enjoying the driving experience, and you DO plan to take the car to a track day now and again - I'd recommend a 1LE over the ZL1 unless you'd miss the nuclear power and techno-wizardry of that car.

Personally, as fun as the power of the ZL1 is (and it is!!), with a more civil 426hp (Can't believe I just said that...), it makes the 1LE feel more fun around a road course and in the bends, because the speeds are less terrifying - which translates to feeling more in control behind the wheel.

Either way, both are amazing versions of the 5th gen Camaro...both clearly at the top of their class.

Great read. My 2010 SS will soon be a 1LE copy (albeit heavily modded) when I get those 3.91 installed! Honestly, had I known of the 2013 1LE back in 2010, I don't think I could have waited this long to get my car. But enough coulda-woulda-shoulda.

The "competition's" Track Pac (aka Boss 302) doesn't stack up to the Camaro 1LE (even to the SS). The Mustang's main failing is its brakes. I was at the SCCA NW Regional event this year and talked to a competitor running a brand new, trailered Boss 302. He was fast, no doubt about it (he was running new 315R18 Hoosier A6 slicks all around versus my staggered Toyo R888). He admitted that the greatest failing of the Mustang (even the GT500) are its brakes. You get the same puny rear brakes across the board. He said that he can't get one hot lap around a track without completely loosing his brakes.

MMM, as I have said before if this option is still available in August, or July... I am buying a Victory Red Camaro 1LE. Wife and I looked at the bills and can afford it... Plus she is getting the Green Camaro... Who knows I may get two License plates one with Christ and another with Mass.... Park side by side... I cant wait...

Well Joe, an excellent write up once again. A distinct, clear description of the 1LE package. It's many advantages and few concessions. It also clearly tells me that I made the correct choice when I purchased the ZL1. Although the Z was considerably more money, it is still considerably more car than the 1LE. The 1LE will be a great car for a lot of people but as good as the package is, can you imagine how much better it would be if you could check a option box for: 7.0 LITER, LS7 505HP ENGINE.

Well done, but you have to get me an invitation to these GM Media Events. If nothing else, at least a shirt.

I saw like 4 seconds better on Virginia course but did it really do 3 seconds better on Gingerman, nice and unexpected. It also sounds stiff like my car is now, good luck driving on the bad roads in NJ and NY.

Are the 3.91's avallable for the SS

I thrash the hell out of my SS on Road Atlanta as often as possible and I would have bought the 1LE if it was avaialble at the time. 1) I would like to put 3.91's in it and 2) I would like to go to the better wheel bearings. Does anyone know the process and parts involved with these 2 mentioned above?

Reading this just got me that much more excited that I ordered a 1LE (which I didn't think was possible!) Great write up of the car, and now I'm anxiously awaiting the chance to write my own review!
