Ive seen them done all kind of ways lol.
Had one guy bring one to a dyno day years back that he put on his car(that he done himself), nice and pretty and shiney but no material was removed really, just polished up. Didnt have any gains, he wound up having it done.

How material is removed from that VMax? From the pics it looks like it's opened up pretty good.....How can that not be a bigger size? The stock one ramps up pretty hard inside making it smaller. It looks like the Vmax and BBK both are a straight shot from front to blade (can't see the back).

By what I understand the Vmax is still running the stock 90mm blade.

So it still ramps but more evenly?

front and back? If so, I can see it being a worthy mod maybe to maximize the factory intake opening. I am not saying it would do that much but better than stock.

Only if it's been "ported" if not all you have is a shiny Cnc'd TB bud, what the point? if it's still 90mm.

well that's what I am asking. I have only seen pics. The factory throttle body is more open in the front vs at the blade. Which part is 90mm? is the blade 90mm or the front?

Blah blah, I need to look at the stock one more closely and measure what is 90mm and where in the path, etc.

I had the opportunity to keep my stock TB and get a V-Max...because I bought a replacement TB and sent that one as the core. Looking at the two side by side, I could see the differences. I didn't bother to measure any of it because measuring it won't change how the thing performs. I installed it and drove the car immediately. And the gains were consistent with what V-Max claims. I hate to say it, but I did feel an improvement in acceleration. And I hope it wasn't the placebo effect because it felt legitimate. It wasn't a huge rush, but it was consistent with the differences I felt when I did the pulley swap and the Predator tune. I could reinstall my stock TB and see if it feels slower...maybe I will.

Would you do me the favor of posting some pics with measurements? Front, rear and the blade? Please, others and myself would like to see it first hand. If not I'd understand.

You guys are lucky that I'm a loser with no life and nothing important to do. I'll take some pics later. But just to let you know, there is another guy who did this swap and posted pics. I'll try to find the thread and save myself a bit of handiwork...

having a bigger opening isn't always the answer. its also about velocity. look at venturi's principle. this is one of those mods where it isn't always about the HP added but about the driving experience...THROTTLE RESPONSE. by porting or reshaping the intake side of the throttle body(and the "exhaust" side of the tb), it increases the velocity of air flow into the throttle body which directly effects throttle response. you could think of it like a velocity stack for the intake manifold.

In a closed system mass can be neither created nor destroyed (law of conservation of mass, simply, what goes in, must come out), and as such, the volumetric flowrate at area A1 must equal the volumetric flowrate at area A2. If the area at location A2 is smaller than A1, the fluid must travel faster to maintain the same volumetric flowrate. This increase in velocity results in a decrease in pressure which follows Bernoulli's equation.

Velocity makes power along with flow. You can bolt a 55 gal drum on a motor and make no power if the volumetric efficiancy is not there.

Oh, and Bo is one of the very FEW that I respect as to his hand porting ability.

I posed the same question a few weeks ago and didn't get much info. I did measure the stock intake and it was basically 94mm. I think the BBK throttle body looks promising.

as long as it isn't bigger than the intake opening, I agree. hate to disrupt that flow.....

and sc2150, I agree. however, with all the bends and shape changes n the intake tube, stock intake manifold, etc I really have to wonder if a vmax vs bbk is a drum vs straw or vice versa. Would a 102 hurt torque on a stock engine? I don't really think so, but I don't think it would show more gains than a 95 or vmax either....except that it is too big to fit anyways...

my point is I think the 93.8mm opening at the intake manifold opening is plenty to maintain velocity. no?

I got an e-mail back from BBK today and their TB HAS NOT been released yet. I'll speak with the owners and production manager in two weeks and I'll give you the info I get from them.
