The only part that worries me?....a vert that is 3k more than a hardtop....boooo
3k is doable, 5k is pushing the bar. It just means less money to go towards my turbo.

Hang in there boss.
I'm trying . That's what this journal is for, so I can post my thoughts and then hopefully when I get my vert, I can come back and read all the posts of my thoughts and anguishes while waiting for the darn thing.

The vert WILL come out. And, when it does, if you have a coupe, you might be kicking yourself. You have waited a looooong time. Waiting a little longer just gives you that much more time to save up.

Yeah what if there's a Z/28 vert? Then you would be double kicking yourself

After seeing some older convertible tops in rough shape, I've come to the realization that even some of the best maintained tops start to look drab and unappealing after so many years. I'm starting to have doubts (what else is new) about the convertible some years down the road. I certainly don't want the top to get stretched across the supports and look boxy and such like below.

Anyone have experience with convertibles over a length of time? Please respond.

yeah i don't know much about the tops but my guess is there is nothing you can really do about it stretching like that,no matter how well you keep it conditioned.

you will most likely just have to get it replaced every 5 or so years would be my guess all depending on how often you use it

The top will the definately deteriorate over time, there is no stoping that. So unless you plan on garage keeping it, the top will not look too great a couple of years down the road.

However, that's something that can be easily repaired, and having the ability to put down the top in your car is still a great perk.

My 'vert is 5 years old now and looks/works just fine, and the car is not garaged. Newer tops are made with much better material than the older cars. I would guess that most new cars will last at least 10yrs.

Is this confirmed 100% or is it an estimated date? We were supposed to see the vert in Summer of 2010...but it was pushed back. Thanks for the link.

So here I am reading Mr Agony's plan for his camaro and I get to thinking about possibly getting a 1SS and getting custom interior. After doing some quick math, having a 1SS comes out to $29,930.18, while the 2SS brings the price up to 32,448.45. That's a difference of $2,518.27.

These prices are for a 1SS with BA audio upgrade, and the RS package. The 2SS with RS package is the SS pricing figure.

With this 2500 dollars I can get get both doors and the center console wrapped in leather with DSV's prices...for a completely custom look, colors and all. Doing so means that I won't have the bluetooth/usb/4 pack gauges though. Originally, that's why I was getting the 2SS, but the more I think about it, the less I need bluetooth capability. I hardly ever talk on my phone in the car, and would be getting the convenience and connectivity package for USB port and ABL so I could listen to music. Does the 1SS have a way to plug my mp3 played into the stereo or no?

Also means I wouldn't be getting auto-dimming mirrors which I think is a cool feature.

Whatever you decide remember this...the longer you wait, the color you want may no longer be available.

After speaking with my mother and Fiancee, I will be going with the 2SS over the 1SS + interior.

My mother, father and stepfather have contacts at quite a few shops around the bay area. So I'm going to reach out to them when I get more money for the interior.
