I would HOPE about any new car gets a 5 star rating. Got enough dang safety requirements these days!

*edit: (not that it's a bad thing!)

The thing we were wondering about is if the mustang meets the upcoming 2012 crash standards, not the 2010 ones, but thanks for coming out. I am still trying to find out if this is the case or not, but I am having no luck.

(This all started from a few members on here getting very cheap insurance and the insurance rep told them it was because the car meets 2012 reqs so it gets a further discount)

No the Mustang does not meet the 2012 requirements. Easiest way to tell it does not have the side curtain air bags. The roof reinforcments, and the door reinforcments are the only unknown. Those are not stated in most safety features, but the side curtain air bags are. So as of right now no its not.

Well, here's what I do know about the safety on the Mustang. This is a friend of mine's car that hit the retaining wall at over 100 mph at Beech Bend last fall. He sustained a few bruises and a sprained wrist (He broke the shifter handle off in his hand) and deployed the airbags but was able to open the door and get out of the car with no problem. There are not too many cars on the road today that could hit a wall at that speed and fare the same or better.

I sure would not want to be in a Corvette and have that happen.

Looks like he scraped along the wall as opposed to hitting it head on???

Yeah, you're right. What do I know, I was only there and saw it as it happened.

Of course he did not hit the retaining wall directly, on-center, head on. The back end kicked out on him (coolant on the track at the big end) he plowed almost head-on into the wall and the impact then spun him 180 degrees where upon the rear of the car hit the retaining wall on the opposite side of the track.

Logic, where are in TN are you? Ive seen a Shelby like yours all the time around here.

5 star ratings arent that hard to come by with the old standards in place. I put more faith in the IIHS ratings than the governments because they do the offset crash.

Can you provide a link to where these 2010 Safety requirements are defined?

One of the reason why I like the 2010 Camaro is the safety...

I shall buy them all and drive into a brick wall with each at 150 MPH. We'll see who's the safest then.

HINT: It won't be me. :(

Murfreesboro. I rarely get to Clarksville, so I doubt it is mine you are seeing.

Why not want me to post some Vids of the Vette t-boning the retaining wall at the drag strip, or them flipping etc?..They have excellent crumple zones

"A car blew its motor right before my run and aparently the track crew at the dragway didn't clean up the track properly. I might have hit a slick spot in the middle of third gear, and lost it. No injuries but the car is trashed. There may be some more vids that come in which I'll post, plus some pics of the extensive damage.

I feels like the car pulled hard right when I lost it. Please watch this vid and give me your impression of whether it looks like the right front wheel locked up/braked, causing the car to veer right"

Shouldn't all cars with a 5 star rating crumple pretty much the same (as in, the people inside are the most protected)?

Who cares about crash ratings.........did anyone see the 4 and 5 star small cars hit the 4 and 5 star midsize cars.........nothing left of the smaller one. Same will happen with a mustang, or whatever........hit an suv or pickup and the ratings go out the window, along with the driver.
