I personally think that is the most insane tune price i have seem. $500 is the hiest i have seen and i would only go that route if i were doing heads, cam. For simple bolt ons an SCT tuner with free tune would be a cheap start. Yes, you may leave a few hp on the table but you are not going to notice the difference. Then if you get headers you can update the tune for $100 and you are still way less than $500 into it. The trans tune really wakes up the car with more torque and better shifts.

It depends on who's doing the tuning.

A tune makes a significant improvement on an L99 A6 if done correctly. You can increase shift speed, change shift rpms, adjust torque managment, etc. I got my L99 A6 dyno tuned right after purchasing it.

I made around 25 - 30 ft lb of Torque in the 3000 - 5000 rpm range (right where you need it) with my tune.

I went to the track and ran 12.9 @ 109 mph (tune only). That same day there was another L99 A6 at the track and he was running about .5 sec slower than me. He also had an aftermarket intake (popular brand) and was using hand held tuner (popular hand held tuner).

So I say get your car tuned, but make sure the tuner is highly skilled and knows what he's doing.

I wouldn't tune the car for just a catback and CAI. If you would have installed LT headers, then yes, but not for just a catback and CAI.

If all you have is a CAI and a catback, and want to increase your performance with a tune, check into a tune from Ted Jannetty.

For about $400, you could get a handheld tuner, and he'll email you a tune for your bolt on items, and it will do wonders for your Auto transmission.

Ted is also very helpful and will answer any questions you may have.

For those mods I would just find a used Predator or some other handheld tuner for around 200 USD or less and use the canned tune. You don't need a custom tune at this stage.

Agreed, your mods wouldn't warrent a custom tune yet. A handheld after market tuner is nice because you can easily remove that tune and resell it later on. The biggest gain you would get from any tune would be from removing torque management. It really holds back these cars down low and you'll feel an immediate difference.
