Question K&N oil filter - lower oil pressure?

2500 miles on my L99 so I had the oil changed. Mobil 1 w/K&N filter. Seems that the oil pressure is lower. Not dangerous but noticibly lower. At idle, the PSI goes down to about 20.

Anyone else notice lower pressure after the 1st oil change?

weird. i was told by a friend that purple oil or whatever will do that maybe its the oil you chose or they put in the wrong one if it wasnt you who did the oil change. maybe the filter has something to do with it.

Was this your first oil change? If so, I would look at the old filter being clogged up with silicones and metal debris from the break in.

Thus increasing your oil pressure a bit, but alleviated.

And 20 PSI at idle is fine. Also, you reading the gauge at cold before and hot now? Just a thought..no insult intended.

No insult taken... I think it is just a matter of I didn't notice the pressure before. It may have been this way all along but after I changed the oil, I am more apt to look at the gauge.

Yes, this was the 1st oil change... probably as you stated... new K&N filter, no restriction.

I just thought it was interesting so I brought it up for discussion.

not trying to start any trouble but when ur oil filter is clogged up. this does not cause more oil pressure all new filters have a bypass built into them pressre is created by oil pump and other parts in motor.

Mobil 1 has several different viscosity ratings, plus regular and Extended performance. Chances are they put in something with a lower viscosity rating.

He had higher pressure before oil change..he changed oil and pressure went lower.

I did state that after the debris and silicones clogged up the filter, thats why the higher pressure..yet lower when he changed oil/filter.

Yes, probable that bypass took care of some of that if filter is extermely bad or to prevent a failure, but the element in my first change was saturated with aluminum and iron. with a gradual decrease in efficiency, you may see a pressure increase..the bypass prevents catastrophic failure at a set predetermined value. You can have a decrease in efficiency and an increase in pressure way before the bypass valve operates.
